OK, I hate creating new threads because I'm afraid it may have been dealt with in the past.

But I just have to know, and after googling extensively, I can't find a thread related to this, so here goes.

I'm thinking of getting a small, 16GB-ish type SSD to use as my temp-file directory, and to store some Internet cache and cookies as well as some files I download to this instead of my main SSD and RAMdisk.

I am really curious as to how this works, as I've seen mythlogic state that the mPCI-e slots are USB connections, and would suck in speeds when using an mPCI-e SSD.

Has anybody tried this out? I want to know if they will work at their full potential or anything, before I make the jump and buy something that won't even work..

The second mPCI-E slot in the P150HM doesn't have PCI bus connections, what you heard about it was true as only the USB pins are active.

SSD directly to the port is a no go.

The top mPCI-E half-height slot is completely wired however it's where your WiFi adapter is at and also half-height as stated with no leeway at all for anything larger.

My suggestion would be to either use a USB 3.0 flash drive if you need the speed or maybe use a small SSD in conjuction with your eSATA port.

Theres the optical bay caddy option as well though that entails making your optical drive external or replacing it all together should you need it.

How about the second slot on the P170HMs? The one for the TV tuner...

Unfortunately, you would not be able to connect one of those mPCI-e cards to that slot either.

You're basically out of luck for anything needing that speed internally unless you want to replace the wireless card. USB 3.0 will offer you the best speeds, but it will obviously be externally based. The P170HM at least gives you the option of 2 HDD bays plus the optical bay, so you have a bit more flexibility on SSD/HDD use.

I had used RAMDisk in the past, does it still take a while to shutdown and bootup to save and load the RAMdisk image?

I don't save and load the RAMdisk image, but yes, it still does take a while to shut down and start up.
