    Hi NBR,
fingerprint reader on my P150HM has disappeared from the system yesterday. It's not in windows device manager nor in linux' lsusb output. Did it die after almost 5 years, or is there a secret key combo that turns it on and off? Thanks!

There's no hotkey for it, sorry to say! It may have failed on you, but... did you (re)install the driver for it in Windows? Also, which version of Windows are you using on this system?

when I read this I thought like the actual hardware on the outside of your laptop disappeared and I was like mmmm....drugs are bad mmmkay....What version of windows are you using? I know with windows 10 my figerprint reader was detected and installed by windows I didn't have to download anything extra or special it just worked...

I don't think it's the driver as it disappeared from Windows (10) and Linux (Fedora 22) at the same time without any particular changes to either of the systems, and the reader was working fine on both prior to that. Oh well, 58 months is a good run. I only hope other components don't start failing now.

Got it. Windows 10 natively supports it; there's no OEM driver for Win 10. Probably a faulty component, then. :vbfrown:

Try a simple cable reseat before ordering a new part; it might be as simple as a bad connection. Hm ... and, since it uses a usb interface, you could check whether at least it's still drawing mA's from the hub.

This happened to my P150HM too. The fingerprint sensor disappear for months at a time then come back for a few days. Probably a connection issue/too much debris. I didn't bother fixing it since the video card died too. If you can remove the touchpad/sensor assembly and clean it you can probably get it to work again.

I would try, but I think it's buried quite deep. Not worth the hassle I'm afraid
