Hi All, I Have a P150SM, however i cant get it passed 3.8ghz (stock) with a 4810MQ. It just current limits straight away.

in XTU I dont have Processor Current Limit and im not able to adjust the Turbo Boost power time window. I can only assume I would need an unlocked BIOS unless the distributor or an update has locked this out.

My machine came from PC Specialist if it makes any difference, any help is appreciated, Ive been told a @Prema Bios would fix this, however it seems he may have stopped distributing these unfortunatley.

The P150SM could not do this, the P170SM could, it had a bigger CPU heatsink so they gave it a bit more flexibility.

Hmm, so what would my options be in terms of OC? I am assuming there is a lot more to it then just unlocking the BIOS features, I have seen some posts elsewhere of people pushing the 4810MQ in a P150SM to 4.0/4.1. I was told Prema BIOS gives you the ability to Overclock this cpu.

When power limited it's finding the most efficient point, undervolting a bit and raising the clocks a bit normally. You might be able to move the power target up to 55W at least.

I have tried that, Under normal usage it works fine, but a stress test brings back current limiting, im not expecting an amazing increase, but even 55W or higher it still current limits, I have a much better PSU and even upped it to 80W. Still the exact same issue :/ I honestly feel like its been limited intentionally within the BIOS, I am really struggling with it. However I did notice the BIOS is a PC Specialist BIOS rather then a generic Clevo one. Which may have some part to play

Well with a power limit under stress tests you would expect your clocks to drop but under more normal loads the clocks to stay higher.

If you can run 4Ghz in prime95 (pulling a random number here) then you would hope it would be higher in lighter loads.

I have solved it, the issue was the BIOS PC Specialist installed onto it, it was locked right down. However after a very Kind Prema sent me over a BIOS all is good now :). Its stable at 4ghz but i need to lap the heatsink as its thermal throttling after 10 mins or so.

Make sure the VRM pad is nice and healthy too.

Ah yes i need to replace that, My P150SM I brought off ebay and the previous owner was selling it as spares or repair as he thought the GPU was bad due to random BSOD's, he had lost the GPU heatsink screws but the fault was actually a bad stick of RAM.

The VRAM Pads do need redoing so thanks for the reminder!

One thing I did find odd, the CPU fan shroud is smaller then the GPU one from factory. Any reason for this? The actual fan itself appears to be the same size, but the metal shroud is smaller, I need to get another GPU fan and see if I can make the larger shroud fit by flipping it upside down. I doubt this will do anything to the temps but as I plan on making the air intakes on the bottom of the P150SM bigger It may help with more stable temps. I do also have a low profile CPU fan from a Acer Aspire Nitro v17 which I was going to see if I could get inside the laptop between the GPU and CPU somehow to move some of the hot air around that lingers in there. I'm unsure if that will fit but I don't want anything sticking out from the bottom of the laptop and want it to stay visually pretty stock and as portable as it initially was without having to plug anything extra in etc.

The Joys of an ongoing project :),
However thank you for all your input so far Meaker, no doubt I will have some questions or queries in the near future

A generic one off Google, as you can see the intake portion of the cpu fan isn't as wide

Oh you mean the actual fins of the fan, for air pressure.

Yes the shroud around the fins, sorry I should have explained it better (although I doubt anyone has ever attempted to before).

It will be balanced for fin density and fan size.

Are you sure? Or maybe the heatsinks are of the same size and the difference between them was that the manufacturer gave aluminum for the 150xm series and copper for the 170xm series? [IMG]

It defiantly can do it. Mine was from PC Specialist, they sent them out with a locked BIOS, Novatech however said there's were unlocked.

However I now have a Prema Unlocked BIOS and it now functions correctly and has fixed this issue for me

    Hi,

I would like to OC my cpu (i7 4910MQ) in a Clevo P17SM-A and I found this around here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/finely-stable-4910mq-oc.778717/

I'm new at this to start with and I didn't do much overclocking since the days we had to switch jumpers on the motherboard of our computers. I wanted to get the same results more or less, but in his steps, the guy mentions that there is a setting in BIOS called "Long duration power limit". Albeit he has an Alienware, but I googled a bit around and found out that some Prema bioses have the same setting under the OC menu. Now, I have Prema (BIOS Version is 1.03.11PM v2 / EC 1.03.09) and it doesn't have the setting in question. Can someone please guide me on what would be the best approach to OC this cpu? Which of this settings should I touch and what do they do?

Link below with some pictures of my bios screen.

    https://imagebucket.io/uploads/view/y8sf4/

What does "IA Core Current Max (1/8 Amp)" do?
Do I need to make any adjustments in the "SVID and FIVR Control" section? And last but not least, what does the "Intel ICC" section do comparing to the "CPU Overclocking"?

    Hey,

I have the same laptop and have been looking for the Prema bios mod. Could you send me a link to the file please? I would hugely appreciate it!

    Kind regards

Sorry dude, not allowed to share Prema's work. If you want his stuff then you need to reach out to him yourself somehow. He stopped making his work public due to people copying his stuff.

Really sorry about that man. I've just been searching for hours and I'm desperate to get my hands on the bios. I know it was a crappy thing to do and I'm sorry for that. Of course I respect his work and the effort put in. I had his bios on a P150EM years ago so I know how awesome it is but sold it and now have a P150SM so would love it on that. Also as I mentioned I'm getting some current limit issues like yourself which I'm eager to solve.
