Have to choose between these 2 models with a 780m.
Is there any significant diference between them like cooling and temps, build quality, sound, etc, which makes one better than the other? (Size and weight doesnt really matter)
And should I choose 16gb or 8gb will be enough for the 780m 4gb? (the price difference is like U$100 in my country).
Srry for my english and tks![]()

Hey Alex,
Some say that the cooling in the larger units is better simply because of the extra headroom (more space in the larger chassis for heat spread), but it's not a huge difference. Also, 8 GB is plenty for most people, though if you have demanding needs and need to use several applications at once that will require lots of RAM, then 16 GB is most likely going to treat you well. Build quality and sound are more or less the same between the two models though.
And your English is very good! -
One other difference the P150SM has one 2.5" 9.5mm drive bay while the P170SM has two. So, the 170 has the option for more storage. Both models have two mSATA slots.
You can always upgrade the RAM later. Personally, I would lean towards 16GB in 2x8GB sticks. Then if you decide to upgrade it even further to 32GB in the future you wont have to replace the 2x4GB sticks with 4x8GB.
As Prostar said, your English is fine. -

They covered most of the differences. If you plan on upgrading the screen there are higher gamuts available one the P150SM. The 95% matte screen is one of the best out there.

Going with 8GB since the U$100 diference to 16GB is to big and brings no real benefit for gaming.
Also choose the Intel Advanced 6235 instead of Realtek 802.11 + Bluetooth since its only like U$15
The only question now is 150SM vs 170SM (170SM U$100 more expensive), and as it looks like, there is no real diference between them. Hard to know how big is the temp diference but probably really small. The only real diference, if I'm not mistaken is the PSU, 180w vs 230w. I think the P150SM with a 780m and 1 SSD + 1 HDD will be running uncomfortably close to 180w and could be a problem for OC even though I'm not planning to do so in the near future.
So... share u thoughts hehe. -
I won't repeat what's already been said.
That said, since both units pretty much weigh the same, you should ask yourself if you are comfortable carrying a slightly larger(1inch) machine around when you have to. If you have no problem with that, go for the 17" model. IMHO, the extra screen size is worth it...even more than the high gamut(my opinion only xD). -

Yeah, there's about a 2 lb difference (slightly less than), so the bigger dimensions are worth a little more consideration than weight. Both screens look great; the higher gamut one will only serve you better if you optimize it through calibration and intend on using it for profossional purposes (such as photography).

The P170SM will let you have 1 - 2.5" SSD 1 - HDD and keep the DVD drive.
P150SM
1 - 2.5" HDD/SSD bay
1 - ODD (DVD) bay
2 - mSATA slots
P170SM
2 - 2.5" HDD/SSD bays
1 - ODD (DVD) bay
2 - mSATA slots -
Actually the models are 157SM and 177SM. I blame my reseler for my confusion cuz they use whatever name they feel like which have nothing to do with the Clevo's hehe.
Either way, I think the 180w adapter is not enough for 157SM + 780m and 2 HDs, even the slightest OC in the GPU would require more than 180w.
I think I'm going with the 177SM, which have a 230w PSU and might be a bit cooler -

At stock speeds the standard adapter will work just fine.
If you want to do any overclocking on the 780M then you would maybe consider the PSU mod. This will kill your warranty though.
The P170SM has another power phase for the CPU, a copper CPU block and the more powerful adapter so will support overclocking more (of course you still end your warranty doing that). -
The P157SM has a second 2.5" drive bay BUT it is limited to a 7mm Z-height. So, if you decide to go for the 157 a little consideration will be needed selecting the drive for that bay. P157SM One 2.5" 9.5mm and one 2.5" 7mm HDD/SSD drive bays.

If you get a SSD you can install it in the 7mm bay then assign that as the primary boot drive and put a HDD in the larger bay for storage.

I will transfer my OCZ Vertex 4 256GB and my HDD 512GB from my p170HM to this new one. SSD being the primary boot drive. Going with the 177SM anyway, cuz it seems a bit better overall , maybe a bit cooler and i dont have to worry about PSU since its a 230w instead of 180w. The only downside vs the 157SM would be the size, but thats no big deal for me.

If size is not an issue then the 17x would make a lot more sense, hope you enjoy it
-
The performance of 780m is more than twice my 6990m, I'm sure i will enjoy it, and hope this one last more than 1.5 years like my 170HM. Really glad my reseller offers 3 years warranty as standard or I would be fcked.

You can usually buy better warranties with people but that 3 years will do nicely.
-
My 170HM had 3 years warranty, 6990m died after 1.5 years, my reseller replaced it but within 1 week the new one died lol. They weren't being able to make it properly work, so now they will refund the full value I paid for my 1.5 years old 170HM as credit to buy a new one. Since the 177SM is expensiver I pay the value diference and get myself a brand new 177SM with 3 years warranty

Very nice
It can really pay to have a decent warranty from a good shop.
P150SM or P170SM? 8GB or 16 GB?
