    Hi,

I recently ordered 16GB of new memory to put into my Clevo- 4x4GB Crucial DDR3 ( http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/p150em/CT3293020). I replaced the RAM in the back without a hitch, and then moved on to installing the RAM under the keyboard. However, when starting the computer, I just got a black screen.

Removing the RAM under the keyboard and turning the computer on causes it to boot up fine, albeit with only 8GB of memory.

Has anyone got any ideas as to how I might resolve this? I've clearly not bricked the computer, but it'd be nice to have a working upgrade.

    Thanks in advance

    hi and welcome to NBR

have you tried the ram sticks the other way around.
put 2 that work under keyboard and other 2 in base. then just try it with th two sticks that work in the base only. just to see if its the ram bays that are the problem.

ive never had a issue with ram so not sure what else to suggest.

Tried switching them round- same problem. Any RAM in slot three under the keyboard and it stops working. I can place some in slot four and leave three empty but the memory isn't recognised- as soon as I put some in slot three it won't start.

Any other ideas? Is the slot just borked, or could this be a BIOS thing? My BIOS is listed as 1.02.17, KBC/EC firmware as 1.02.11. My other thought is some sort of voltage issue, as the slot under the keyboard is labelled as 1.5v, whereas the RAM says 1.35v.

I've replaced the ram sticks under this keyboard. You do not need to do anything in the bios.

If you tested the sticks in another slot and it works then the only thing, short of a bad slot, is that there is a dust bunny in the slot or you're not getting the retaining clip fully locked.

I think I would blow out the slot with some canned air and perhaps jiggle the stick being sure the locks are full up.

You're doing everything right, it should work.

The slots under the keyboard can be a little trickier to seat just right, be sure you have seated them 100%

Thanks guys- blew out the dust and then put the memory back in. Thing is, I was doing it wrong- turns out to put the memory in you need to put it in at an angle, just like the stuff in the back.

Works fine now. Sorry to bother everyone, but it sat so well when out of place that I assumed I had a faulty system, or had done something wrong.

Happy New Year, and may all your technical issues be solved by moving things around a bit :)
