Hey guys..
I recently upgraded to Windows 8 and thought everything was running with no issues.. but it turns out that my CPU is stuck in energy saver mode.. it's an I7-2670.
Normally you can change it to performance mode using the hotkey app.. but with the new hotkey version nothing happens when I right click the app.. and when I double click the icon appears in the start bar but no window displays.
Any suggestions on at getting this out of energy saver mode? I tried to use Throttlestop but it had no effect. just showed 8x99.8mhz..
hopefully you guys can help!
Thanks in advance!

hey buddy!
id recommend u stay away from the v8 hotkey version (the one specifically for win8) when ure on an HM machine. rather try either the v6 or the older v3 series hotkey tool, which was stock for HM laptops. im using 3.3053 and it works like it should in win8

Thanks I'll give those I try.. I'm on a Malibal Lotus. I had an old V3 from my windows 7 install.. I upgraded to windows 8 and had the same issue with that version.. I'll give those two a try though.. let you know shortly.
Thanks! -
hope it works out for you, keep me updated
-
Ok! Good news and bad news.. the V3 Hotkey program you linked to worked great.. So I was able to select Performance Mode..
Bad news though.. My CPU is still staying at 800MHz... I'm using HWiNFO for the details.. all for cores stay at 800 regardless of what i'm doing.. Any suggestions? -
u said uve already tried throttlestop (newest version 5.0 from techinferno)? make sure to check all mod boxes in the upper half of the lefthand column (clock modulation, chipset clockmod both at 100%, multiplier on turbo) and then click on the "turn on" button on the lower right corner. also make sure that aside from the hotkey perf. mode uve switched the internal windows mode to high performance!
try those things and get back to me with the results
ps: be aware that ull have to switch off TS first and then reboot before u can properly reenter powersaving mode. id try the windows high perf. mode first and then TS after.
cheers

hi.. I really appreciate your help with this.. I've tried throttlestop.. Clock Modulation, Chipset Clock Mod and Set multiplier are all check and set to 100% or Turbo.. Power saver, Disable turbo are unchecked.. EIST C1E and BDPROCHOT are checked. I clicked Turn On.. I can't tell any difference.. I ran the TS Bench but the CPU details at the top of Throttlestop are still showing 8x 99.77 = 798.2MHz..
Anything else I can try?.. This is driving me crazy!
Thanks Again -
Also.. I installed the Intel extreme tuning utility and it is showing the CPU is throttled to 100% and won't change..
-
throttled to 100%? well normally intel xtu aint supposed to work properly with the stock P150HM bios
have u checked to make sure that BOTH windows and the hotkey utility are running on high performance mode?
tried a reboot after implementing all the changes? -
yeah.. i tried the reboot.. and BOTH are set to performance..
Regardless if XTU is supposed to work it shows the same as the other apps.. it won't run over 800mhz!
It seems like no one else is having issues so this is getting frustrating... think maybe a clean install of windows 8 could fix it? -
hm that is quite weird indeed.... i hope u uninstalled the v8 hotkey and rebooted ur system before u installed the v3?
also, what are ur cpu temps like? -
Yes I uninstalled rebooted then installed V3.
My temps are in the mid 40s.. if i stress it it goes up to the mid 50s..
The intel turbo boost monitor shows the smallest sliver of a dark blue bar and never moves higher.. -
shoot, thats really a bummer...
do u still have a system restore point left from before u installed the v8 hotkey? maybe thatll do the trick and spare u a complete system reinstall. either that or u could go for the win8 system reset before trying a reinstall.
sorry i wasnt much of a help so far buddy, ill keep my eyes peeled for any possible solutions...
edit: ok, heres one more try - uninstall hotkey tool / go into the bios and reset it to stock config / take out the CMOS battery (under the keyboard), that should completely reset the BIOS to stock / reboot computer and check the cpu state BEFORE u reinstall any hotkey tool -
ok let me try that before i reinstall
Thanks buddy. -
YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER!
It worked.. i pulled the CMOS out and reset the bios after uninstalling hotkey.. i'm back in windows.. all the hot keys work.. my CPU is back up to speed.. and the hotkey app is not installed.. I think i'll keep it that way..
Thanks again buddy! -
aaaah, finally
glad u got it working buddy! enjoy that new win8 sweetness on ur machine

Pardon me for using this thread for exposing my problem, but... i really hate that it kind of creates a temporary application every time i turn Caps Lock or any other key which uses the hotkey driver. It makes windows switch to it even if for a split second and sometimes it loses focuses on the window i am currently on. Has this ever happened to anybody else?
What i mean is this, by the way:
Is there any way to turn off this feature? -
other than uninstalling the hotkey app, i dont think so. but then again, these symbols only show up when u actually use Fn+a function button on ur keyboard. during normal typing it shouldnt happen.
