I'm looking at buying a 23 inch dell monitor but it only has a display port input, no HDMI. Can it be used with my p150hm? Does the p150hm have display port? (i've never dealt with external monitors before)

Nope. 150hm have hdmi and dvi.The new refresh however has display port as well iirc.
There are better monitors anyway with a lot of inputs.

They sell displayport to HDMI/DVI adapters, but they're really only worth considering if you already had the monitor and wanted to make it work. If you don't already have it, look for a monitor that has DVI or HDMI instead so you don't need the adapter.
