With the Battlefield 3 beta starting on the 29th (or 2 days earlier if you pre-ordered the limited edition - 2 days from now xD) and the specs released - will the p150hm (with 485m) be able to max out B3?
I just ran the "can you run it" test ( Systems Requirements Lab, creator of Instant Expert Analysis) and my machine made it just passed the minimum requirements... But I'm confused as when I view the area where it details what I am lacking in order meet the recommended requirements it says this:
![]()
It says the 485m doesn't meet the recommended requirements, yet it says it meets all the required features (required attributes) of a graphics card worthy of maxing out the game... So what am I missing? (Also note it states that my graphics card has 4gb vram when it only has 2gb dedicated video ram).
So I went over to YouGamers: PC Game Reviews, Previews, News, Articles, System Requirements and the Game-o-Meter and ran the Battlefield 3 test there:
![]()
Here it indicates I passed the recommended requirements (with flying colours it seems) meaning that theoretically my machine should be able to max out the game. Did system requirements lab make a mistake?
PS: I'll trying out B3 in open beta in 2 days![]()
-
You won't be able to max out it but you will be able to play it on very good graphic.
-
My spec definitely can't max everything in BF3, but I just set to playable settings. I just enjoy playing the game
-
I wouldn't worry about the minimum specs rubbish. it's just publishers covering their rear in case someone sues them for not being able to play it on their 80486 machine on their birthday. My old M570RU theoretically didn't meet most of the requirements for Battlefield Bad Company 2, yet the game ran very smooth on max setting except for one or two really busy vehicle sections (and some of the dust clouds).
The only time I had a real problem was with Black Ops, which was cooking my core 2 duo at 100% and running at under 10fps, but I think that was just a bad port from consoles.
It's just a fact of life that even bleeding edge notebook graphics are 15% behind desktops, and that games are designed to look work at max settings only on tomorrows hardware. I reckon I'll only be able to play 2006 Flight Simulator X maxed out, on my next upgrade late 2012. -
Any modern Sager/Clevo will be able to play it. I saw an official twitter post saying that the only machines that can play it on ultra must have two desktop 580's in SLI.
-
560 has 336 cores / 256-bit bandwidth
485m has 384 cores / 256-bit bandwidth.
I think a lot of people forget there is a slightly weaker 560 vs. the 560 ti. At the same time, the 485m is NOT exactly a common card (I believe clevo is the only ODM that uses it at this time). I go with "game-o-meter" more than the system requirements lab... it seems more up to date in my eyes.

Recommended requirements are needed for play in MEDIUM settings according to DICE employees on Twitter. Let's see with the new optimized driver to be released next week, how we go with our Clevo pc.
-
It should be fine. A lot of it could be nvidia getting EA to help then with their marketing. Also the requirement matcher thing probably doesn't see mobile cards right. The 485m and 580m are similar to the 560 Ti, just lower clocked. I'm maxing the poo out of it when I get it to see how it plays.
-
I'm going to conclude for now that system requirements lab made a mistake and that I pass the "recommended requirements". As for whether the machine will be able to max out B3 that is still an uncertainty. I did read somewhere that the recommended requirements where for medium settings, not ultra, but in that same source someone countered saying that it was actually the requirements to play on highest settings.
I'll be downloading the beta tommorow and I'll report back with the results... Fingers crossed ;D.
EDIT: After reading this article http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/09/23/battlefield-3-will-need-monster-rig-to-run-on-ultra-settings/ it is clear that the 485m alone won't be able to max out at all. As someone mentioned above me, the recommended requirements - GTX580 - alone won't do the trick. Rather, "we’ll need two 580s in SLI to make the most of the Frostbite 2 engine" and “recommended is usually medium”.
Oh well... I guess you really need a monster rig to max B3. -
Recommended isn't medium, it's high. Someone tweeted a while back that recommended would correspond to medium settings but then someone else from DICE re-tweeted and corrected, saying it corresponded to high.
-
'Battlefield fan @bkohn1 asked him whether a rig matching the Battlefield 3 recommended system requirements would run the game on ultra settings. Matros replied to say that recommended is usually medium. So will a top of the range Nvidia GTX580 do the trick? Apparently not. Matros revealed that well need two 580s in SLI to make the most of the Frostbite 2 engine.'
I have not seen any such news of a re-tweet correcting this, and I find it hard to see why the first tweeter would have been so specific if indeed what he stated was completely incorrect.
PS: I'll have a look around and see if I can find more information to tell otherwise. -
bkohn1(Bob Kohn)
@zh1nt0 so can you tell us if the recommended system requirements are enough to run the game on ultra?

zh1nt0(Daniel Matros)
@bkohn1 recommended is usually medium

bkohn1(Bob Kohn)
@zh1nt0 so would one GTX580 run it on ultra? Or do I need two of them?

@zh1nt0 @Lezziter that is wrong, the recommended settings are for High.

my p151hm1 with gtx560m can only run battlefield 2 bad com on medium settings with 1280x800 smoothly (a steady 60fps) ... so i wont expect my machine can run battlefield 3 smoothly on 1920x1080 medium settings... but hope it can do well on 1280x800 with medium settings
-
I hope the NP-8150 takes the next-gen video cards, doesn't look like my 6970m is going to cut it. Expected to be disappointed on Tuesday, but I'm sure it will be a fantastic game nonetheless.
-
Just to prove my theory as fact (that system requirements lab gave false test result on my gpu for B3), nvidia released new beta drivers for Battlefield 3 today and during the installation of the driver there is a link to nvidia gpu Battlefield 3 requirement compatibility check.
The 485m beats the recommended requirements.
Battlefield 3 - Is Your PC Ready? - GeForce (B3 requirements check)
NVIDIA DRIVERS 285.38 BETA (64bit windows)
NVIDIA DRIVERS 285.38 BETA (32bit windows)
Nvidia stated that the driver will boost the performance of Battlefield 3 by 38%.
-
I don't think there's anything to worry about.
A friend of mine who played in the Alpha has a 460m GPU and was able to play on medium-high settings with a constant 30fps.
6970m/485m will do just fine -
Thanks guys for making me feel better about it!
BTW, are you guys going to be in the Beta with your Medal of Honor LE? I haven't received an e-mail with instructions yet and a little worried if I haven't actually registered the game. I would figure they would just send it to the e-mail you use to play online. Anyone gets their e-mail yet? -
From the Nvidia site linked before:
Your PC's AMD Radeon HD 6900M Series meets the game's recommended requirements.
So they test also the AMD video cards ?
I've got a 6970M -

The early beta starts 10pm aest... which is in 12hours from now.
See link for more details: http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield3/1/beta
Early access (closed) beta FAQs here: http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/bat...ttlefield-3-open-beta-questions-answered.aspx -

Perhaps I misunderstood your question? Were you trying to say that you HAVE the Moder Warfare LE and are wondering about the how you will receive an access key for early beta? If that is your question I linked the 2 official resources that will answer that question (and whatever other questions you might have about beta).
If it helps... I got my access key in an email an hour ago.
If you intend to ask something more specific I suggest you phrase it more clearly next time. -
Hi, I just ordered a laptop with the setting 2630qm, 6970m, 8GB ddr 1333 and 128 SSD. so how well do you guys think it will run battlefield 3??
-
Thanks for letting me know you just got yours. I still haven't, so I'm still worried if EA sees my copy "registered". I looked under my EA account and don't see any game there. But I do play online and you need to use an e-mail to do that. -
-
-
. I hope you get your key soon
.
Anyways... Ive been playing beta - or trying to - for the last 2hours; but there are problems.
- Servers are all full to the brim and it takes forever to get on one.
- I keep getting error messages when I try to connect to servers (codes 1, 2, 4) to the point where I have to restart origin for it to work (although not even that works now).
- When I finally get on a server I only get to play for a short while (up to 10mins) before the game just quits unexpectedly and I get a message saying disconnected from server.
All in all I spent 90% of my time trying to get into a game, 10% playing. It takes getting used to as the gameplay and controls are very different to Bad Company 2 but it is awesome. -
-
Hey pepi, what resolution are you able to play on and what kind of visual settings are you running?
-
Yea, those who have played, let us know what resolution/settings/framerate you can get.
-
hey pepi. I have the same specs as yours and waiting for my cd-key
.
Tell me how the game runs... resolution, settings, fps etc
Please! -
I'm playing it with a GTX485M clocked at 700/1650, i7-2720QM. As far as I can tell, for the most part, the fps difference between high and low is nearly zero. that is to say, decreasing the quality past high will not yield a performance increase. at 1920x1080, I'm getting 30-60 fps with everything on ultra. with antialiasing turned down or off, motion blur off, HBAO off or turned to SSAO, I'm getting around 45-65. If I turn everything to high without AO, antialiasing, motionblur, I'm getting around 55-70. If I turn everything to medium, nothing happens. If I turn it down to low, again, nothing happens. That's probably an indicator that the difference between low and high is just texture resolution, because we all know the GTX485M has plenty of VRAM, so tex res barely affects performance at all.
On a side note, battlelog sucks. a lot. getting into a match is almost impossible, and the servers kick you off after about 10 minutes. -
That would be excellent! -
-
update on this:
it appears that the in-game settings for image quality often glitch and have no effect on the game at all. As of now I am unable to give any kind of feedback because, quite frankly, i have no idea what settings I'm playing at any more. -
Can someone please tell me which is the best driver to use for 6970m? I see that the Catalyst preview 11.10 came out, but not sure if this applies to our cards.
-
.
-
I'm hoping i can run the game on ultra at 720p with 30 fps or more since my hdtv only does 720p anyways. Can't wait for the open beta on the 29th.
-
Has anyone been able to play around with the 580 in BF3? I tried changing some stuff earlier to see how much I could max out the game, but it kept crashing on me after trying to save them... and I just got tired of trying to join a game after a while. I honestly don't know what most of the video options even do, so not sure where fps improvements can be gained, etc. Hopefully someone who's a bit more computer literate than I am with similar/same specs can let me know where they've gotten the best performace via settings.
Noticed my temps were up to 88c though after playing a bit.. not sure if I should be worried for when higher player maps come out; guess we'll see! -
-
My 485m runs BF3 well too. But I lowered shadows and AA for the sake of getting higher FPS.
-
485M + i7-2720QM running excellent @ 1080p all ultra without AA&AF.
-
Anyone tried running with the 560m?

any 6990m users doing beta?
-
-
I just did an fps test using fraps: On Ultra, with all settings set to max, I get on average 40fps (ranges between 38-42). -
-
In 1080P with lowered shadows to medium and no HBAO, about 40-50FPS.
Indoors it goes as high as 60 and very smooth.
