    Hey gang,

I've been getting these flashes on my screen, the bottom half white and the top half straight black with white stripes. It happens whenever there is a significant change in color on the screen (black to white webpage, scope-ins ingame) as well as any time I readjust the screen's angle.

I'm thinking its just a loose connection somewhere inside the screen.

I called Mythlogic, who are about to repair it, but they said it will take 2-3 weeks to repair, and I really need this laptop for school. Anyone had a similar issue? Is there a simple fix I can do that won't leave me without a computer for weeks?

    Thanks!

could you take a picture of the screen and post it on here which would give everyone a better idea of what it might be.

are the lines anything like the attached image.
if it is then it could be a dying or faulty graphics card.
only other thing i can think of is a loose screen ribbon cable.

since it happens when you move the screen, I'd also think this points to a loose cable..

the fact that it happens with color changes also is strange though.. Just for the sake of troubleshooting, you could trying removing the GPU drivers in safe mode with driver sweeper, and re-installing them. Certainly couldn't hurt.

If nothing else, I don't believe it's too hard to dismantle the laptop and check the connections.. I know 2 weeks is pretty rough to be without a laptop for school.

It sounds as though it could be a loose ribbon cable as you suggested, or possibly a faulty graphics card. You can eliminate the latter if you hook up to an external monitor. If the problem doesn't persist, then it's likely not GPU or driver related. You can check the cable using the service manual below to open the laptop up (thanks to Theriko):

    P15xHM_ESM.zip

If however you see that the problem persists on the external display, then try removing the drivers as hizzaah recommended. If that still doesn't sort it, then you'll probably have to RMA to have the GPU checked out.

Its hard to see the lines through the black part, but there are white horizontal lines in addition to the two blocks of white and black. Here's a video and a picture.

Thanks for the help. I'm gonna reinstall the GFX drivers tomorrow.

Should the top of the screen around the webcam be warm/hot to the touch?

The top of the screen will always be warm there because of the backlight and inverter. That shouldn't be considered abnormal.

if it voids your warranty, don't open it. otherwise, just try to wiggle the cable back into place if it's loose
