Whenever I touch the keyboard or even the palmrest there's a faint, electronic humming sound. It's only noticeable when the room is silent but still very annoying. Is this normal?

maybe the fan casing might be the chasis causing it to vibrate in resonance and making a sound?

I agree with Silverfern, it's most likely the chassis being depressed and picking up the vibration of moving parts within the laptop. It'll be pretty tough to pinpoint the exact culprit without some trial and error testing, but doubtful it's anything that poses any potential for damage. I'd look into a screw maybe not being tightened or missing.

Thanks, I guess I didn't tighten up one of the screws all the way when I last cleaned the fans. The problem is gone now :)

I have that too, it's your mechanical hard-drive.

You can turn off your hard drive when idle by adjusting your power plan and the humming noise will be gone.
