So I have a question regarding the cooling of the P157SM. I know the Cooling needs some mods in order to be decent since it's normally rather bad. Now the questions I have right now are:
- Does anyone here have experience with modding cooling systems? What are the most common issues?
- My CPU Heatsink is out of some metal but not of copper like on this picture:

Would buying a copper version improve the temps of my CPU?
- What can I do to improve the temperatures? I am willing to buy new things and mod on the cooling. I do have tools as well.

In theory, copper performs better.
I will give you steps that improved my cooling in P370EM. I use SM-A heatsinks.
1. Use decent thermal paste. GC-Extreme is what I use and it delivers. Replacing thermal pads is good idea as well.
2. Use foil tape (any tape will work) to seal all the gaps between fan and heatsink fins. So all air will exit through the fins.
3. Mod back cover so more air gets sucked in. I used 1,5mm and 2mm bit to drill it bigger. Then I used heat to melt off any small peaces sticking out, but I F. that part up and made it look uggly. (probably sacrificing cooling on other internal components?)
4. Use thermal adheasive to glue more fins to heatsink.
5. Add extra springs to heatsinks to increase pressure.
6. Use laptop stand. I use 3 120mm fans with dust covers and I rarely see any dust build up in heatsink fins.
Buying a brand new heat sink might improve temps as well. Might be that the extensive modding made mine degrade over time.
Lapping a heatsink is good idea. Especially after liquid metal has completely solidified and made a mess, due to low heatsink presdure in laptops.

The cooling was not bad with the 980M, people on this forum like to push the GPUs and then some help on the cooling is a good idea.

I already got very good thermal paste (coolermaster HTK 002 high performance).
How much did you mod improve the cooling compared to earlier? -
It's difficult to tell. I did all that within few years and experimented other cooling mods while had different ambient temperatures. I also upgraded GPU's, but I did see improvments in temps after each mod. I would say start with closing all air leaks (foiltape) and giving fans more air to breathe (bottom cover mod) will knock you 5-10c off.
