I have a P157SM. When you hit the power button, the following happens:
    1. Discrete video card LED flashes once.
    2. The DVD drive's LED flashes once.
    3. The "Power" light on the front left of the base flashes green, amber, green, amber.
    4. Then it repeats.
Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this issue?

When did this start, were there issues before it started?

I've heard of similar issues with other laptops. Even happened to one we use at work. There are two options that I know of that have fixed this issue.

    1. Unplug the laptop, remove the battery, hold the power button for 10 seconds or more, reinsert the battery, plug it in, and try to power it up.

    2. Unplug the laptop and remove the battery. Open up the laptop and find the CMOS battery on the motherboard, remove it (if it's not soldered on) and hold the power button for 10 seconds or more. Replace the CMOS battery, replace the laptop battery, plug in the laptop and try to power it up.

Edit: 3. Just read in another thread with a similar issue that bad RAM can also cause this. Remove one stick (if you have more than one) and try to boot it up. Swap the sticks out if it didn't boot the first time.

It usually turns out to be an issue that the NVRAM got corrupted for some reason when last shutting down. However it could also be an indication of something shorting your motherboard.

If it's still under warranty I wouldn't recommend opening it up though.

If the power cycle AZHIGHWAYZ recommended doesn't help, nor checking the RAM, try removing the video card and power the system on without it. It will beep during POST, but if re-inserting the video card causes the behavior to resume, you know the card is suspect.

Did you try another Power supply?
