I actually quite like the new design, but the trackpad is a dealbreaker.
Does anyone have any concrete information on this?
-
-
no idea but im wondering if when you use the shortcut key to turn trackpad off it will turn the light off as well.
-
Also some resellers might be offering a special track pad design. (for example, mysnUK is going to offer one with XMG logo)
-
weeeeeell.....u can always opt for the P150sm/P170sm without the bling bling and the illuminated trackpad
-
So far I haven't found a way to turn off the touchpad lighting independently of the keyboard backlighting on the P157SM

I believe it is tied to the centre region of tbe keyboard.
-
Is it as bad live as it is in pictures? It looks tiny too

You can turn it off, but as Meaker said, it's tied to the keyboard backlight; you can't disable one or the other, only both.
Clevo is supposedly working on rolling out a design in the future where you can disable them selectively. -
time to ask these guys who are writing new codes for backlight

They may be wired that way electrically.

open up machine, cut cable, close it up, enjoy dark trackpad

im wondering if the resellers can disable it, that would really make me consider the 157.
hope they can comment on this. -
Got confirmation today that they can (Metabox - Australian builder). I'd expect most online retailers to give the option to disconnect the trackpad light in the near future.

The picture looks a little touched up. I've used it on and off, and it's not terribly noticeable with no backlight (still mildly apparent though).
-
Yea we can disable it if you want, thats not a big deal =)
thanks! -
aaaah myth, always at the ready to rescue poor innocent nbr users

...but without disabling the mid section of the backlit keyboard?
-
Yes without disabling the whole thing
But its not a switchable thing, you either get it turned off or on when we build it
Not saying its irreversible but its not something you just do every day
-
Probably a cable to detach? Had a similar design in a HP pointless track pad light.
-
i actually prefer aw's solution in that they illuminate the trackpad as a whole and only when u need it. after a specific time of non usage it automatically switches off. kinda neat

It really needs to be a definable separate area. Functions like only on when touched would be nice.
-
We just added it as an option to our configurator so you can just select it when ordering if you want us to unplug it
-
I think it should be software/bios controllable some time down the road.
And, that's the logo for clevo? direct translate of clevo from its chinese is "blue sky", so I guess it fits.
though they should hire better artist/designer imo ~~ -
Thats just the stock logo, you can get them customized.. If you spend the $$$$$$ (and its $$$$$$$$$$$) Clevo will make ones of whatever you want
-
Is it as easy to disable the trackpad light on the P375SM?
That thing is God awful. It's like Clevo is letting my 10 year-old nephew design their backlights. -
hm, looks like schenker/mySn was willing to spend that big time money in order to be able to provide their upcoming models with an xmg trackpad logo

Im sure its cheaper if you have them all that way.
P157sm / P177sm Trackpad - Can you turn it off, or at least make it dark?
