So I didn't see a specific thread about non Clevo MXM cards, will a P170HM accept like an MSI/Alienware MXM card or will it need a vBIOS flash to work? Or is it the best to buy a compatible Clevo card?

Like I'm seeing MSI 7970M for ~350 shipped.

I believe MSI cards are for the most part compatible, and Dell cards are the only ones that tend to have issues (but still work, just fan speed issues).
I have a P150HM with a Clevo 6990m, so I'm not really an expert, it's just what I've gathered over the 2 years of owning Clevo laptops, through these forums, and a few others.

Edit: I apologize if I don't have the most amazing of an answer, but due to the fact no one else seems to bother replying to our question threads (I have a few of my own from a while back with no replies, on similar topics)
I decided, it's probably for the best if I at least give what info I can. :)

It is best to get a Clevo card if you can find one priced the same. Typically Ebay from a reputable seller is your best bet.

Dell card will not work. Need Clevo card with Clevo vbios, some MSI vbios will work.

There are some cases where a Dell card will work with a vBIOS flash, but generally you're risking a can of worms in going with another manufacturer's card. The safest bet is to opt for a Clevo card.
