Hi,
I have a BTO17CL47-7970/NP9170/P170EM
It has the new 7970M.
I installed the drivers+cat suite from clevo and then installed ONLY the modded 11.6.9 driver over it. However it seems to be stuck onto the Intel HD4000 card. How can I switch back to the 7970M card?
Thanks Mk

try reinstalling the driver that was on your computer when you got it.
ive never used modded drivers so cant advise on that one. -
When you say, "stuck," do you mean that assigning applications to the "High Performance" GPU in CCC does not trigger the 7970m in those applications?
-
not sure will have to try. Is there no way to have it perminantly activated like with the older drivers?
edit: because you're not really going 2 say I have to add 70 games 2 highperformance oO -
yep you do have to. Kind of annoying but that's how it is.
-
oO so I have 2 add chrome 2 in order to play 1080p video online...
-
The hd4000 can play 1080p video.
-
Ohh Okay. I'm going 2 test with 3dmark11. and also when I start gpu-z it only shows the HD4000 while it is set on high performance for that program
edit:
power options: high performance
switchable graphics: high performance
The power brick is attached to the laptop.
It should get 5800 points in that case right? -
Just feel the right hand side fan, assuming the 17" is the same as the 15". My 7970 doesn't show up in hwmonitor until I start a high preformance game, and when it does it says hd4000, but it's acttually the 7970.

I have problems with programs detecting (not using, although I have the utilization issue) my 7970m as well. For example, 3DMark11 ALWAYS reports that it is using the HD 4000. Well, I must have the fastest HD 4000 in existence, because I get 5800+ in 3DMark11 lol.
Yes, 5800 is about right for a stock 7970m.
We currently have to select a GPU for each program. In the new 9.00 drivers I have been using, there is a default option similar to "Based on power source." If I leave every application at that setting, my laptop always uses the 7970m for applications that utilize the GPU when I am plugged in. On battery, then, it defaults to the HD 4000 for everything with that option. Seems like a good middle ground option as long as AMD fixes the Enduro issues (where do I keep my bottle full of time?). -
How could they make this so unclear -.-... I mean its not like this really works how now I have 2 switch between profiles when I go out with the battery instead of click: off/on. AMD logic. Just like: lets make a good videocard but not include compatibilty for it in our drivers. -.-"

Don't worry. This community will throw a fit the likes of which AMD has never seen. Doors will be knocked down. The line will be held. Tables will be flipped over (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻.

ran 3dmark this is what I get mid benchmark:
zWorkload work failed with error message: Process exited unexpectedly -
I received that error the first time I ran 3DMark11 with stock drivers and the 9.00 early betas. Driver instability seems to be the issue. Nothing to do but attempt to run it again.
-
I'm guessing a lot of this will get fixed with drivers.
-
Similar issue but i am only having issues with skyrim, it auto-detects to low settings and says i only have the 4000. However, when i go to play on ultra it plays at 4-10 fps.. I have been unable to get any sort of answers for this issue.
-
You must set skyrim for high performance in the catalyst control center. Also set your power management for high performance in ccc and windows
-
sorry for confusion i have done that already for both the TESV.exe and Launcher.exe but is only showing up as hd4000. I thought i had seen similar issues
-
It seems to work fine now. although the drivers are very unstable.
