I've got a P170EM that I've had for about 2 years now and it's decided to stop powering on. I've tried powering it on with the battery out using only AC power and without the AC and only battery power neither of which worked. When it's plugged the charging light won't light up at all, and when trying to turn on it doesn't respond at all. No flashing lights or whirring, not even for a second.

I used a multimeter to check for power from the brick and it showed voltage on all 4 sockets, there was also continuity through all 4 prongs on the laptop. I even disconnected all power and unplugged the little motherboard battery and let it sit for about 30 minutes after holding down the power button for about 30 seconds.

I'm starting to think that the motherboard has gone and fried itself, but wanted to see if there were any other ideas.

Also I wasn't using it when it died but my fiance said she was watching a youtube video and it just shut down suddenly. No low battery warnings, and it was plugged in.

    Specs:
    P170EM
    i7 proc
    7970m
    8gb RAM
    running windows 8.1

    Thanks for any help!

i think either ask malibal for another motherboard or sell all the parts of your notebook and buy a new one

I've opened a ticket, but it only had a 1 year warranty and its been almost 2 now. I managed to find a company that sells the motherboards for 300 bucks which is a bit much but less than a new comp.

What kind of price do you think the parts could fetch? I'd probably keep the ssd but willing to sell of the rest.

Bricks can read normal voltages at no load but cut out as soon as you apply a load.

It reads the same voltages at the pins for the charger on the mobo when plugged in, nothing makes it through to the batt circuit and no charge lights come on. So powers not making it through the mobo for whatever reason. Whenever I order I'm probably gonna spring for a new power brick too. Since I'm not sure what exactly killed it in the first place.

    Probably a good idea.
