I'm in a position where my "home" source of entertainment comes from a laptop, as I'm currently in the Philippines for another year, and then China for another few years.

I think my poison will be a P170EM with:
    • Ivy
    • 7970M
    • SSD+Mechanical+Blu-ray
    • Upgraded glossy screen that I haven't decided if I truly want yet
    • Basic Wifi Nic (unless someone knows if the available modules allow for promiscuous mode + monitor modes)

Afaik, my only option for getting such a machine will have to be purchased from one of the retailers in the states.

I have checked out Malibal and Xotic. I haven't decided which I will go with, just yet. Can anyone with experience tell me how good either of them are for International orders, or if there is a retailer that I'm missing that is reputably good with international dealings?

It would be awesome if the retailer would test the machine before shipping it out. It would suck to pay $300+ on shipping and wait a month for it to get here, and come to find out it doesn't work and then have to ship it back with another hit to time&money.

Also, does anyone know if shipping insurance covers the terrible event of the machine not successfully getting to me? I have used fedex-international for small things in the past and it has always been a good experience, but a ~$2,000 laptop is a bit more critical.

I can help you only with this info: if you want your machine to be tested 100% in and out (so you wont have to worry about defects and warranty work), then go with Mythlogic.

I spoke per PM with one of Mythlogic's reps, he told me that they are in fact NOT a reseller, and build their own machines. They put them trough tests, calibrate your LED screen, check for dead pixels, put good thermal paste on your GPU and CPU....all that stuff.

So, PM them and ask them yourself. Im not affiliated with them in any way, but if they want, they could +rep me for recommending them.

We do ship internationally quite often and have had great results doing so.
All our computers are fully stress tested before they are shipped out. We'll make sure everything is working as its supposed to before it goes out the door.

We do fully insure all packages whether domestic or International. If there is loss, theft, or damage you will be covered.
