    Hello users,

I have P170EM and external LCD panel with high resolution. Unfortunatelly I can only manage 1920*1200 via DVI/HDMI which is not good enough. Is there a way how to connect P170EM with GTX 670MX to LCD with resolution higher than 1080P? Maybe some special profile or something? Its only for adobe photoshop, no movies/gaming. Also I only managed to get Intel GMA working, how to use NVIDIA card on external LCD? If neccessary I will use miniDP in case of need.

Please I am desperate, any help or guid how to achieve higher resolution will be apprecieted!

    Thank you a ton guys.

Over 1200p is only possible via Dual Link DVI or Display port.

What resolution are you trying to get to and what monitor are you using. As you mentioned it will go 1920x1200 which is actually higher then 1080P. It could be limiting you if that is the max resoultion of your external screen.

Just to make it clear the DVI on this notebook is single link, you would need an active adapter on the dispaly port to run higher.

Right; the chip is capable of resolutions well over 1080p, you just need the right interface/adapter.

Thank you for your answers, really!

The extrnal LCD is EIZO FlexScan SX3031W, it has only DVI port.In other words, is it not possible to use internal DVI to run at higher res? I HAVE to get active mini DP - DVI adapter to run 2560×1600 resolution?

Okay than but how do I know its active adapter? I need to know what exactly is neccessary before I buy it :)

PS: How to force NVIDIA 670MX to use it while working in adobe? It now runs on intel GMA i think.

    Thanks, you guys rock!

Active adapters are more expensive and will say they are active in their description.

You can get into Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings. Then add adobe and tell it to run High-Performance.

Also if Im not mistaken active means that it has to be additionally powered by usb, so the dongle will have a USB output as well as a DVI one

Dear guys, I have bought this one: Clicktronic - DisplayPort/DVI adapter cable

It does not have any additional USB dongle but it should be pretty good cable - says supported res 1600P, DVI-D etc. This Adobe SW is running on intel GMA and when I connect it, it does not output resolution higher than 1200P. I will try to run application on NVIDIA GPU and see if it works. You know I hoped Intel GMA will run anything above 1200P as well. Maybe I am doing something wrong, do I need to add/create extra resoluton manually or something like that?

    Noooooooooooooooooo. From that link:

"Full HD TV up to 1080p"
    AND
    "max. resolution: WQXGA (2560 x 1600)"

So I hope it'll work as hoped.

The displayport with active adapter should work.

Many active adapters don't have a USB powered connection. I think, contrary to popular belief, it's not necessary.

Active vs. Passive Displayport adapters *the truth*

Thank you all for sharing your interest. Unfortunatelly I connected this to my LCD, set NVIDIA card to high performance (now should be running on NVIDIA) but no higher resolution option has appeard in the list. I think this adaptor is Active so where is the problem? Any solution/guide is appreciated.

    Thanks!

I'm fairly sure it's not active, as I mentioned earlier. They tricked you, by saying that it could accept up to 1600p, but only display up to 1080p.

Anyone can confirm this is pasive adapter please? Anyway, DisplayPort should be able to manage higer resolution itself right? Its not limited at 1200P. God I am having such a problems with this CLEVO P170EM, should have bought something else :-(

It's not the laptop's fault that your adapter doesn't work, nor that your monitor doesn't have DisplayPort itself. Infact, there are zero laptops that can natively output 1600p DVI.

    These are active:

Display Port to Dual Link DVI Adapter : Desktop Accessories | Dell
    UltraAV® DisplayPort to DVI-D Dual-Link Adapter
DisplayPort DVI Adapter - DVI-D display to DisplayPort video source | StarTech.com Canada

    This is the best price:
    Amazon.com: Accell UltraAV B087B-002B DisplayPort/DVI-D Dual-Link Adapter (Black): Electronics

    Or pair these two together:
    http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-DP2MDPMF6IN-DisplayPort-Video-Adapter/dp/B003N3DTKY
    http://www.amazon.com/Kanex-MDPC30-DisplayPort-Adapter-Display/dp/B0045I85GY

The real issue is that there are two kinds of 'active' converters. Ones that convert from DP to multi-mode DP++ (active, without a power input and only a DAC/Switch), and ones that convert the multi-mode DP to 2 separate DVI links, for resolutions above 1200p. (Active, always with a power input.)
