    Hello everyone,

I have a following problem: I own a P170EM laptop (specs in sig) with 4x8GB RAM. The RAM runs at 1T command rate, which causes a small performance loss (lower WEI score, lower performance in Cinebench 11.5 etc.). It's not a big loss (maximum about 9% in Cinebench 11.5 single thread), but it irritates me a lot. I have read, that when 4 memory banks are populated, the RAM should be running at 2T command rate. Does anyone know, how to force the RAM in P170EM to run at 2T? I tried Intel XTU, I don't see that option there.

There's one more thing for me to explain. My laptop originally was equipped with 2x8GB Kingston DDR3 1600MHz CL11 RAM (Elpida chips). I had 2x8GB Kingston DDR3 1333MHz CL9 RAM (also Elpida chips) from my previous laptop. I took the chance and used Thaiphoon Burner to read SPD profiles from the 1600 MHz RAM modules and write them to the 1333 MHz ones. Operation was successful, the 1333 MHz CL9 sticks run at 1600MHz CL11 (I even tested them at CL10, which was also stable) in my laptop. Tested using a variety of programs, Windows Memory Diagnostic tool and memtest86+.

The question remains though: how to force the RAM in P170EM to run at 2T?

1T is faster, 2T is slower.

Usually we use 2T to run the RAM on 1866Mhz or 2133Mhz or to get 32GB sets to higher speeds.

If you still want to use 2T, just use the 2T mod in my sig. :)

I know that 1T is faster, but how would you explain the performance loss then?

Because you jumped from CL9 to CL11, more Mhz will give you higher bandwidth but higher timings will slow the response times.

Try to drop the CL11 to CL10 in Intel XTU and if it's stable flash those profiles with Thaiphoon.
