Sorry if this has been raised before, I did my best to search the forum locally and on google before posting.

I am considering to buy a P170EM sometime during the summer. I am very happy to see a matte screen option at most resellers as I really hate glossy screens. What I am not totally satisfied with is that the only resolution option is 1920x1080 full hd. I would be much much happier with a 1600x900 hd+ screen (strictly matte).

Does anyone know the model numbers of the screens this laptop comes with? I just want to check around if I can find a compatible 900p screen I might be able to swap the stock one for. Or if you know such compatible, good quality matte screens that would be helpful as well. Or just what criteria does a screen need to satisfy in order to be able to fit the laptop?

    My reasons for this are:
    - I don't do graphical work so huge screen space is not needed (I do coding but 900p is just enough for that for me)
    - I don't care at all about watching fhd movies, if I want to do that I'll just stick my tv on the laptop
    - I don't really care about playing games in 1080p, 900p is totally fine
    - a laptop is a long-time investment for me, I don't buy the latest one every or every second year - I own and use a 2007 t60 thinkpad currently - and the 900p screen has about 30% less pixels meaning I would be able to run games smoothly at the screen's native resolution (!) for a longer time and also the load temperature of the gpu would be lower most of the time meaning longer life
    - and most importantly 1080p at this size is 127dpi which is rather high. I read a lot on screen and unfortunately it's not properly supported currently - I can switch windows to high dpi but that breaks certain apps and websites. My current laptop is 14 inch and 91dpi which is good, my work machine has 21.5 screens at 103dpi (1080p) which is just about right. 900p in the Clevo would give me 106dpi which is waay better than 127.

    Edit:
I just found another thread at http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/665682-np9170-screen.html which seems to have links to the screen specifications - these might be helpful

You can just change the resolution in the OS.

Which would make the screen not run in its native resolution and everything look pretty bad.

If you are ok with 1600x900 screen then alienware m17x might be an affordable option for you. With the specs of 8GB RAM, 7970M, 750 GB hard drive, and a 1600x900 screen the alienware m17x comes out only 50 bucks more expensive than Sager 9170.

Something worth considering if you are comfortable dealing with Dell customer service.

Yeah I thought about alienware as well... It's just that I believe they only have glossy screens and I prefer clevo for the upgradeability&build quality. If I can't find an affordable solution I'll go with the fhd matte screen, matte is way more important than the resolution :)

Try e-mailing Mythlogic. They get parts from a lot of different places, so they may have a good source. They usually are able to get a lot more stuff than they offer on their website.

Yup, Mythlogic would be your best bet. Really though, I do a lot of coding too and the more lines of text I can fit on the screen at once, the happier I am. Also, 1600x900 on a 17.3inch looks like 720p on a 15.6inch, as in not good.
