Hi everyone!
Just picked up a P170EM with GTX 680m.
Installed windows 8 Pro 64 with latest Nvidia driver 310.70. During playing BF3 the FPS raerly shows more than 30, this appears in every video-setting from LOW to ULTRA., GPU Z shows only 70 % usage of the gpu load when in game. Something is holding the GeForce GTX 680M in a low performance mode. HELP!
Have tryed to change Power Options

Hi John and welcome to nbr
as long as you are set to high performance lets get started. are you using fraps to monitor fps
a newer nvidia driver released today http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...-310-90-notebook-released-jan-5th-2013-a.html
ok. everything you will need is in my link below. download msi afterburner and i also recommend nvidia inspector and core temps.
actually i never check my fps but let me go and see what im getting.
im getting roughly 35 when im killed and it goes back to the menu and in game it varys from 60-75
not eactly sure what to suggest as i said i dont really monitor my fps so not sure whats best to test first.
someone else will be able to advise on this one. -
Hi and thanx the reply.
Tried the lates driver 310.90 with the same result. 30 FPS all the time. Something is holding the GeForce GTX 680M back.. -

Is vsync pegging you to 15/20/30 FPS?
-
vsync is set to off in game options. Can I adjust it in driver to?
-
when you open nvidia inspector its not greyed out on any of the boxes is it.
im not sure how many fps the HD4000 will give but im wondering if the card is not switching to dedicated.
just to check load msi afterburner to desktop and let it run in background.
run B3 again and then close it after 5 minutes and check the top graph for temperature and second box to see if its running the gpu at 100% -
at high/ultra, HD 4000 prob gives around 5 to 10fps
-
that answers that one then
thanks Silverfern.

Could you run MSI afterburner and Intel XTU in the background (use the spanner at the top right of the graph to add throttle, load and active cores) and put up a picture of the graphs for a short section of gameplay?

Erratic gpu usage points towards a cpu or driver problem.
-
I had issues like that with my 7970m until i used throttlestop on my CPU because it wouldn't turbo when in games. It would stick at 2.2GHz which hurt bf3 a ton.
-
Maybe i should take a closer look at the cpu then. How do you check if turbofunction is enabled?
What gpu usasge do you guys get when playing bf3 multiplayer? Maybe 70 % is normal? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
That's why I suggested running XTU to monitor the CPU since it can give you all the information, did you get the latest version from intel?
-
this is what i get after 45 minutes of B3.

I get about the same as MrDJ, the gpu usage bar is mostly at the top, fluctuating maybe around 90-99%.
This could mean as Meaker mentioned a CPU or Driver issue, did you ever try playing BF3 on the stock drivers that came with the laptop?
Also if you are having issues running Intel XTU, please check my Clevo Drivers thread in my sig and download the Microsoft SQL Service Pack at the bottom of the first post. -
If you are having trouble getting XTU to work then download ThrottleStop, check the Set Multiplier box and set that to Turbo and then click on the Turn On button. Go do some gaming and see if anything improves. You can also check the Log File option and it will record a record of your CPU's performance. The Multi column should be showing lots of Turbo Boost.
P170EM; GeForce GTX 680M is NOT working with full perfomance
