    Hi,

I have big problems with my P170HM. Some weeks ago my 6990M died completely. I looke around and found a GTX560M to get the NB working again. I built it in but the NB was just beeping and blinking and the screen stays black :/ So I decided to send the card back and buy another one. I decided to buy a 675M which should work very well in my NB. But now I have the same error...

    The problem:
First I see the LEDs and I can hear the hard drive.
Everything seems fine but I have a black screen.
But then something strange happens: The fan rises up it's speed and 3 LEDs next to the power button start blinking while the NB is beeping.

    Things I tested:
I can get DOS booting, but NVFLASH says: No nvidia card found. Exit code 2.
If I start the NB without any graphics card, it starts the same way. Beeping and Blinking.
With the old broken 6990M the NB starts normal, but with black screen.

I don't know what to do. Is it possible that the BIOS is too old? I think I have the .10 Version but I don't know exactly. I got a backup of the BIOS with afudos: Link
Maybe someone can analyze it to find out the BIOS version. I wondered that the stock BIOS is 4MB and the one I read out was just 2MB large...

I hope you can help me,
    Niclas

I bought the card on ebay: 675M 560M

No, I can't see anything all the time. The screen is always black. It seems like the graphics card doesn't get recognized.

The 675m is a dell card and isn't compatible with clevo. As for the 560m coming from a Toshiba Qosmio, I'm not sure how compatible they are either.

I tried the oven trick, but my 6990 is really dead... Are you pretty sure, that the 675M doesn't work in the P170HM? upgrademonkey and mokkin on ebay have them in stock for the clevo and both are taken from an alienware laptop. Link

Sager/clevo notebooks need sager/clevo cards due to their different EC controls.

Isn't there a way to identify the suitability of these cards base on the color of the printed circuit board? Or was it a different card?

I just bought from upgrademonkey because it was said in the product page that it was compatible with clevos. Too bad i will have to return it... I just can't find clevo 675m anywhere.

Clevo cards are a lighter blue than dell cards.

Ah I was referring to the kepler and 7970/8970 cards.

Dell 580/675 and the 680 use a delta branded inductor at the corner the memory modules make where as clevo cards do not.

Ok, that's bad news! I spoke to the seller and he is going to send me a new 675M out of a clevo. I hope this will work! I will tell you next week, when the card arrives if it works.

Thank you ver much for these information.

That's good for you! I might not have the same luck. My card is stuck at my country's customs because the mail service is at a strike, also I don't know if the seller will have a clevo card for me. :(

Postal strikes suck :( Customs can be slow anyway (especially considering how much I end up paying them).

I got my GTX 675M and installed it. Everything SEEMS fine, i can boot up my Linux and my Windows.
But my BIOS says "VGA card: Empty" and GPU-Z shows Microsoft Basic Display Adapter instead of nvidia gtx 675m.

If I flash a clevo gtx580m vbios will it work?

I would avoid that for the time being. What does your BIOS say when you boot up?

    MB Series: P150HMx
    BIOS Revision: 1.01.14
    KBC/EC Firmware revision: 1.00.13

    VGA Card: Empty
    VBIOS Revision: 70.24.43.00.02
    VBIOS Build Date: 11/13/11

    Edit -----

    Got it working!
Malibal sent me another vBIOS, flashed it but nothing seemed to change.
BIOS still says VGA Card: Empty.

I tried several drivers and I got 327.31 from laptopvideo2go working.
Tested some games and everything seems ok

    Here's my GPU-Z screen

    More info:
I got this card from e-bay, from a vendor called "upgrademonkey"
In the description it was said that the card was pulled from a Alienware, but it was compatible with Clevo P150/P170HM and EM.

I decided to give it a shot, and it's working.
