    Hello,
My name is Rémi, I'm from France.

I'm having issues with my Clevo P170HM with 6970M and i hope you guys can help me.
At first, I had a few visual artifacts on my screen, 2 days after it went all black after the windows loading screen (before the login screen). (No mouse pointer, but the keyboard seems to work)

I tried to boot on my second OS which is Ubuntu and on a liveCD of Ubuntu : Same result.
I was able to boot in safemode, I tried to uninstall the drivers and reinstall, but as soon as the installation finished, the screen went black.

After a few other tries, I now have the black screen in safemode too...

I've been told that maybe the GPU was unsoldered, so I tried the "oven fix" but no success.

Do you guys think my graphic card is dead ? Or could it be something else ?
I've tried a few windows repair/restore and it all ended with errors... Which makes me wonder.

I've read about the 7970M with the right modded vbios to replace my card but I want to be sure that this is really my problem before I spend 450€.

    Thank you

    Time for new gpu.
Go with Clevo 7970m v1.2 and rjtech vbios or 680m 4GB Clevo if you can find it.

Good luck and welcome to NBR.
    :)

Hello, i'm having a hard time blind flashing my 7970...
    I have a faulty 6970M on which I dry run the autoexec.bat.
For now thé .bat file only plays a beep sound to make sure it is executed. And with the 6970M, it is.

When I put the 7970M in, and boot, it does not seem to boot on the USB stick (the usb LED is not flashing, the beep does not play)
    Am I missing something ?

Also during the boot, the computer seems to stop after 3sec (no fans no light for a second) then come back to life (fans and computer LED come back)

    Any ideas ?

What PCB version is the 7970M card? V1.1, V1.2?

The sticker says "AMD WIMBLEDON V1.2 2G"
    VBIOS : 015.018.000.000

I also updated the EC and bios to their latest revision while I had the 6970m in.

Check the card is properly inserted otherwise could be a dead GPU. Unusual but it should work no issues with that hardware version.

Tried again this morning, not better...
The computer LED light up for a few seconds, then everything turns off, then the computer boots (lights +fan) but no activity on the USB stick.

I checked the memory again even though my 6970M was inside 10min ago and the computer was booting fine.

And I removed the HDD just in case...

Well I'm trying to get a refund or replacement as the GPU was under a 12months warranty, but so far I have no reply...

    Got a reply :
I'm not sure why Prema Bios would help. I updated bios to 1.01.10 and EC/KBC to 1.00.09.
Isn't it the correct version to use the 7970M ?

Edit : in fact I can't find any prema bios for P170HM here.

I had the exact same issue as you, its the GPU that died. I baked the card and it came back to life :) (Lucky me!)

    Hello,
It's been a while but i still have my problem.
I ordered a 7970m on which my computer wouldn't even boot.
    Returned it.
Ordered a new 6970m. My computer boots but I'm back to my very first problem... The gpu is recognized on my bios, the computer boots up to the windows logo.
But I have a black screen instead of the login screen...

I wonder if my problem really comes from my gpu in the first place.

    Any new ideas please ?

could be that ur display cable is faulty, in that it gives out once too much bandwidth is applied to it...

Sounds like faulty vRAM. The card should be reworked or replaced if it is under warranty, if need be. Installing a custom, third party BIOS is not going to fix a broken GPU.

Is the replacement a Clevo card?

It's possible the video cable is bad, as jaybee mentioned (they rarely fail, but still possible).
