    Hey.

My gf 580m died after 4 years. I decided to upgrade my gpu to a newer one. I found this auction with 4gb Clevo 680M. Seller says it is with 80.04.33.00.10 vbios (from clevo p370em). Will it work with my laptop or do i need this 80.04.29.00.01 vbios to be flashed? And what about GF drivers? Will i need mod the .inf file to get that card working, or maybe Prema has got a modified vbios for 680M?
I've found on forum that some of the motherboards are not compatible with 680M. Is that correct?

    Thanks for any info

I am currently working on that project myself. I got the card, installed it and had to do a blind flash, got that from techinferno. I started a thread here :

I hope it helps you as these guys have really helped me out. You will definitely get some good info. Now I am off to find and install me some drivers, YAY!!!!

Yes, you will have to flash the card to the .29 vbios, there is no way around it. Ask your reseller to flash it for you if possible, and stress it enough, otherwise you will have to blindflash it. And yes, you will need to mod the drivers, but that should be easy. Follow my guide at the end of this first post and use this string (for the p170HM) in the nvcv.inf of any nvidia driver:
    %NVIDIA_DEV.11A0.0000.1558% = Section063, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11A0&SUBSYS_00001558

You have to disable driver signature enforcement under windows 8 and 10 though. Should the driver install still fail, use a different section, 017:
    %NVIDIA_DEV.11A0.0000.1558% = Section017, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11A0&SUBSYS_00001558

There is no motherboard incompatibility, this is a rumour spread by Malibal because they presumably not know about the .29 vbios being the only one working with the p170HM. As long as you have that vbios installed and are able to follow my inf mod guide, you are good to go.

How exactly do you disable the driver signature?

There are multiple ways, I like to run "cmd" as administrator and use the following commands

    bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
    bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON

Afterwards you have to reboot. Then you can install the driver, and open "cmd" as admin again to use the command
    bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING OFF

this method should also work: http://www.howtogeek.com/167723/how...8.1-so-that-you-can-install-unsigned-drivers/

But I am pretty sure you already disabled it, or use windows 7, because otherwise the nvidia installation will fail halfway through. If you run windows 7 there is no need for disabling anything as w7 doesn't check for it.

So I went ahead and did the F8 key trick and I now am running my GTX 680 4gb card and playing Rise of the Tomb Raider. OMG the card is awesome. I did install the driver directly from Sager and I am in hopes of doing an upgrade shortly. Will tell you how it goes. Damn I feel like I have a new computer all over again. You guys here rock, thanks for the help. As soon as I wrap up all of my checks I will post a very detailed description of all the steps I took and some things I learned from other parts of the forum into a compiled installation instructions manual for this card and this board along with the versions of everything I have.............Thanks guys...........

Ok so now the card is cooking along, I Love It!! Gaming and Virtual have gained exponentially. I still cannot see my card in the computer BIOS. I see the revision and date but my card is not listed, any thoughts on that. I am still toying around with different vbios' . GPU-Z2.gif Games are really looking good and my computer work in general has gaine significantly. I would like for my computer BIOS to list the 680 GTX. That would really give me a warm fuzzy feeling. Is there a Prema mod that fixes this. Any help would be appreciated. Also on another note, I am finishing up my install guide for this card, probably will be insignificant, but I will post it as soon as I am done hopefully to help anyone whom is slow on the upgrades like myself. It is totally worth it though.........

Did you correctly add your GPU string in the drivers nvcv.inf and write ".... = NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M" ? This will do the trick for windows applications, but I'm not sure about the BIOS, it will probably not help. If the card works correctly that should totally not matter though.

***Edit: I just checked, even for me the BIOS just shows "nVIDIA VGA CARD" so just deal with it I guess :p

So mine just shows the .29 version number and date, it says "empty" in the VGA slot..........its cool though, my card did build its own BIOS boot sequence before the boot screen so there is that I suppose........

Yeah mine does that too. Just in the BIOS itself it is just listed as a "VGA card".
