P170HM has been successfully installed Clevo GTX680M 4GB

    Clevo GTX680M 4GB overclocking result on P170HM:

    1.default test
    3DMark11 : P5971

    2.software overclocking w/o any hardware mod (854/1150)

P170HM has been successfully installed Clevo GTX680M 4GB!

74'C low temperature for Furmark burning at default clock

    85'C for 854/1150 overclocking

    3DMark11 benched result:

    7970M @ 850/1200 = P5860
    7970M @ 1000/1500 = P6600 (tess on)

    Desktop HD 7870 @ 950/1350 = P6600

    Mobile GTX680M @0.835v 720/900 = P5960
    Mobile GTX680M @0.835v 854/1150 = P7000

    Desktop GTX670 @ 900/1500 = P8400
    Desktop GTX670 @ 1116/1775 = P10295

    Mobile GTX680M @0.85v 1000/1500 = P8200 ?

    (notebookcheck)

    single 7970M @ 1000/1500 = P6600
    dual 7970M Crossfire @ 1000/1500 = P11500

    single Desktop GTX670 = P8455
    dual Desktop GTX670 SLI = P13590

    680M SLI = ?

I'm pretty sure that the GTX680M in SLI has higher efficiency than the 7970M in Crossfire

the EM models definitely. but again: why would u wanna "upgrade" from a 7970M? wouldnt make any sense performance-wise :)

    Yeah baby..

This is what I am talking about..
26720 3dmark06 points and nearly 6000 points on 3dmark11 and all without overclocking. :-O

HELL YEAH.. this I am going to buy for sure.. I think the 7970m I will pass on with all the issues present. At least with this you put it and it works no vbios bull enduro crap blah blah blah.

Looking great for us HM series owners... :)

One more question there is a need to gain new BIOS or EC firmware to run GTX 680M in P170HM ? Right now I have BIOS 1.01.10 and EC 1.00.09 latest from Clevo.

I highly doubt it. If there was an issue it would have not posted and hence OP would have stated otherwise. I can only assume the 7970m is the one that needs a separate flash of vbios to allow the bloody thing to post. It's because of the igpu and dgpu being separate on the 7970m only.

I don;t think the 680m suffers this same problem but I could be wrong. This has made my night... Yehaaaaaa :)

Check out the overclocking potential of the 680M

did u use a 7970M with a modded vBIOS? if not, then its no surprise that it wouldnt POST on ur machine :)

buy buy buy....? sure! only thing is that i dont have a money-tree growing on my balcony (dont have a back yard :p) :D

ummm...ur link doesnt make any sense. the linked thread is just speculative, theres no 680M review there and no one has proven the card to be OCable to desktop 670 clocks! just to make this crystal clear ;)

Everyone really should check compatibility, or what is needed to make it compatible before rushing out and buying. I'd also wait until Sager confirms if the 680m really does work.

TBH, I have yet to receive a single reply from Sager in my email communications. So given that they don't want my money I am willing to pay the extra here for 680M and go with this beast which works. I also won't have enduro/amd drivers issues. Worth the extra $$ I personally believe, and ps look at the headroom this beast of a card has with o/c temps..go baby go...

now THAT link makes much more sense ;) no PWnD, just FAIL for the first link post :p haha

besides: 7970M@stock reaches max. temps in the mid to high 60s, only SOME users reported to have temp problems under load, that doesnt mean that that is the correct value :)

aside from that, the 7970M has also already been shown to be able to break 7k in 3dmark11, sooo....wheres the revolutionary thing about the 680M? still same performance / OCability / max. temp. at 300 bucks extra :p

What I was trying to say was it isn't confirmed. Whether you want to buy from Sager or not, they are testing compatibility with HMs.

But the compatibility of gtx680m with P1XXHM is a great news, hope some test from US/ EU integrator.
If GTX680m doesn't need bios mod, then the extra 300$ will be reduce for european customers buying the card at european integrator, cause now the only 7970hm modded was sold by US compagny, and for european customers you can add 100$ for shipping + 20% frontier tax to the price of the card.

The guy who tested the 680M is using a stock clevo bios with a few tweaks unreleated to the GPU (I made it for him).
So this doesn't need any further testing.
680M simply works on HM out of the box. :) (except, no 3D on P170HM3) ;)

@jaybee : argh ... this price kick my as. ... perhaps the price is so high because of low availability.
I will wait until october/november before making a choice.
7970M clearly has a very good price/performance ratio.

I wouldn't say buying the 680m over the 7970m is justified by this but I wouldn't change my order because of the small increase either, would probably just spend the extra $300 on a second set of Astro A40's anyway... for the lulz.

This card looks to be quite the overclocker, even though it was tested with a 2920xm we have seen that the ivy bridge 3610qm even outpaces the last generation extreme edition processor, it also looks to be running much cooler than the pitcairn chip as well.

Good news until I noticed Upgrademonkey' selling GTX 680M 4GB DDR5 for
$1,198.00 + $18.00 shipping to the UK. This is a joke, I can buy a new laptop with a 7970M for that. Yea, I am sure it is a high price due to its limited availability and the 4GB DDR5 but that's just a load of nonsense.

You can make them an offer though.

I am glad it works without any modification in the HM's, this is great news and if I can find a decent price, I would be interested. We all know that will never happen, I may as well install a freaking gold plated heatsink while I'm at it

I think I will wait for the 7970M upgrade kit to arrive from Mythologic.

Same for me mate. I also own the P170HM3. The 3D is in the MXM code in bios. I ported the 580M 3D support to an older bios...so let's see. ;)
But at that price I may not get the card at all, unless a reseller offers a deal to help me getting 3D supported.

at eurocom the GTX680m cost 725$ vs 7970hm at 514$
I don't know what drugs laptopmonkey has taken, but it made them mad.
    For european GTX680m cost 585€ vs 7970hm at 415€
but need 107€ for shipping cost ans 19% import tax ....

for the excelent price/performance ratio the 7970M, for less heat and less power consumption at same performance with some addition (Physx ...) the GTX680M (but with an extra 200$) ... but you can also wait a little for better availability

    Or Credit Card size :D

So far I have found Nvidia to be more reliable in my laptops but that was back in the HD5870 vs GTX285M days. With a low interest (6%APR) Credit card, it won't make a hell of a lot of difference which one I purchase really. However, I wish Nvidia wasn't so expensive and perhaps the price will come down in 10 years...

Multicom.no charges 368 dollars (2200kr) more for the GTX 680m over the HD 7970m.
HD 7970m is 133 dollar (800kr) upgrade from the GTX 675m.
I just cant justify something like that.
Rather have a XM cpu + HD 7970m, just gotta wait for that BIOS fix to leak. ^^

I downloaded the Driver and checked the custom .inf. I don't see an entry for the 680M anywhere so can't see this one working.

I don't know but I asked them so will see. If not, I will try the official and any others that might work.

    Edit:

RJTech said a Drivers CD will be included!
