HI,
I'm also thinking about getting the GTX 680m from RJ.
What shipping option did you choose?
I'm not sure if the cheapest - USPS is safe enough

I got an offer from XMG - Schenker (germany) for the card, but they would sell it without heatsink (supposedly it didn’t change from the GTX 580m)
RJ is a little cheaper even with tax and also includes the heatsink.

i chose USPS, havent had problems with it before. it just takes 1-2 business days longer than with UPS, totally worth it considering u pay almost 100 bucks less :p

I chose USPS shipping because it was so much cheaper. I have used them in the past and they have always been extremely reliable and competitively priced. I received a package from overseas that was not trackable via USPS and it arrived today. I asked RJTech if their USPS option is trackable so will see what they say.

My old GTX 485M heatsink would probably work with the 680M but RJTech's comes with a new one anyway and that's what I prefer.

Hey guys, could you please chip in this conversation:

http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...ic-card-compatibility-m18x-4.html#post8673441

I am looking on trying these cards on my m18xr1. The problem is I cannot find any seller that will accept a return in the case that these cards do not work. More importantly if I flash the vbios with the 680m from alienware will it use the 4 gigs or 2gigs (alienware version is only 2gigs).

Thanks in advance!

chances are that u probably wont find a reseller willing to do that. in any case ull definitely be able to get rid of ur card on ebay at full price in case it doesnt work in ur machine :)

I guess I will take the plunge and buy 2 680m from RJTech.

I do have a question regarding the seller. Should I buy the P170EM or the P150EM? I assume I also need to find an SLI cable since I am upgrading from my 6970 Crossfire.

i assume u plan to reuse ur 6970/6990m heatsinks right? in that case it doesnt matter which option u choose, since that only differs in the choice of the heatsink they include. i would just contact them via email or live chat and ask if they could also provide u with a sli cable so ull have the complete package right away :)

I personally would avoid USPS at all costs.
MSI sent me a refund check with USPS on May 30th and it didn't arrive yet lol;
Luckily, they wired the money and canceled the "lost" check;

And about the tracking, it stopped at "left USPS sort facility", won't be trackable overseas.

So yeah, my experience :)

I heard back from RJTech about the USPS shipping and I also asked them if they would do a GPU discount for NBR members.

They said they don't offer it for parts but would offer a discount for a complete laptop build for NBR members. Contact [email protected] if you want that in the future.

They said the USPS shipping will have a tracking number that will tell you when it arrives, not just 'left the country'.

So.... Sager np8170 3d / Clevo p170hm3 models can't do 3d anymore with this card?

Can we at least put the card in our machines for 2D gaming? Or do the machines not support the card at all??

as for amd cards, theyre not supported at all on 3d models. concerning the 680m,that should work at least for 2d if not for 3d as well.

Read most posts, but I'm still wondering; I saw another thread of someone having trouble using the 680M on a 120Hz screen P170HM. Do 60Hz screen HM series laptops support the card without significant problems?

I'm at a loss for the 7970M's flickering when overclocking with Afterburner (only way I know of as of now) and weird compatibility in the shape of extra steps i'll need to take EVERY time I want to overclock, and then the card not returning to idle clocks. The inability of the damn GPU underclock/undervolt itself on idle when I have custom clocks applied sucks . (If I do have PowerPlay enabled, windows desktop will start artifacting!)

I'm on a P150HM (Sager NP8150) btw.

The only problem with the GTX680m in P150hm is the need of modded .inf to install driver, a Max OC of 854Mhz/2400 due to the power circuitry/PSU of the laptop ...
and a problem with hibernate mode where the laptop cannot wake up without an hard reboot.
But you still can up and down the brightness of the screen, you don't loose battery runtime ... and the card is a beast of performance

Here the modded .inf for 305.68 (whql driver for gtx660ti)

I am getting closer to putting some $ down on a 680m.
Are the faults listed above this post the only issues with this card on hm series?
I will probably go with 680m card but am waiting for prices to fall. I am just curious owners of 680m with hm series are you happy so far with this card. Looking back would you have gone with 7970m?

I was also thinking of upgrading soon, but can't see the point of 680m in the HM. The problems with the 7970m don't exist in the HM, so really you are paying a lot extra for the same performance.

Really happy with this card ... i am little disapointed for the limited oc capability on P150HM (to be compare with P150em series) but this card is really great. Support physx too , but if you don't care, i recommend that you buy 7970m.

Do I have to do a blind bios flash on 7970m for it to work with HM series?
I just don't wanna buy something to see blank screen when booting up with it first time...scary thought..

Maybe a 7970m is a more economical purchase considering there are probably many with the em series and wanting to sell them to be rid of the enduro issues. In such a dilemma about which path to follow. One side of me wants to save the $$ whilst the other says pay a little more get more OC with 680m and enjoy the HM for another year or so..

most resellers who offer the 7970m also offer it as a HM version with the modded vbios preinstalled on the card. but even in case u do need to blind flash it (like i had to cuz R&J apparently forgot to flash the modded vbios on my card :p) its still not that big of a complicated deal. i can send u instructions for that if u like, just pm me :)

Very happy with the 680m in my P150HM. It has been perfectly stable with nice and low temps too. I was weary of AMD from the things that I had read, even though the Enduro issue is not expected to be a problem with these models, so I haven't looked back for a second.

I just sent a mail to mysn.de and asked if they have 680m on sale for an eventual x7200 upgrade, and also asked if they have the possibility to make bios modifications for the x7200 and for the cards so that they will recogniye each other (motherboard and card). I asked since i know seller have this posibility and knowledge to do such modifications.

If they are willing to pull this through i will buy from them 680m SLI.

I wonder if that hibernation problem is Driver related. Surely P170HM users would get the same problem to if it was something hardware related?

I use hibernate many times a day and have never had to do a hard reboot even once.

Edit:

Just noticed that GPU-Z now has full support for the GTX 680M.

Hi!

I'm going slightly mad. I'd like to upgrade my Clevo P151HM-PS1 i7 2720QM, gtx560M, 8GB PC3-12800/1600Mhz DDR to GTX680M..... So some resellers told me that it will be cause of damage of my laptop, some told me that only HD7970M can be installed and other that only GTX680M can be installed. OMG, what should I do? Help please!

I doubt that, Clevo has just added HD7970M/GTX680M support for the newest P151EM BIOS. For P151HM's case it might still be possible, but you need a 180W power adapter.

Please excuse my laziness but is the psu that came with the p170HM 220W? for maximum oc the 680m?

I am reading limited overclocking capability with the p150HM and 680m series card due to low psu unit. Is this the same for P170hm users?

TIA

My notebook (Clevo P8130) is not recognizing a GTX680M that I`m trying to install...

I`m pretty shure it's because of my old motherboard BIOS.

I ried to flash a newer one: ( ftp://usftp.clevo.com.tw/ALLBIOS/P15xHM/P15HM11107.zip)

But even after flashing the BIOS... On my BIOS screen, it shows my older version (1.01.11) intead of (1.01.14), like I never flashed anything.

Can someone guide-me to how to update my BIOS to make my GTX680M to work?

sent u a PM, but if anyone else needs this info, heres how it goes:

- download this program and use these DOS system files in order to properly format a usb stick of ur choice
- download the most recent EC (1.00.13) and BIOS (1.01.14) for your model here, unzip, rename the two folders into something simple like "EC" and "Bios" and put them onto ur prepared USB stick
- reboot ur system, repeatedly press F2 in rapid succession to enter ur BIOS and put ur USB stick to first boot priority
- reboot system, let USB stick load the DOS environment
- first command (to update the EC, be sure to do this BEFORE updating the bios!): C:\EC\update.bat (step by step: input "cd EC", hit enter, input "update.bat", hit enter)
- let update run its course and system will shutdown on its own
- check bios if EC has been updated properly
- load up DOS again, this time input the command for the BIOS update: C:\Bios\update.bat (same procedure as described above)
- the system will again shutdown on its own
- boot system and check again if bios has been updated successfully

cheers!

I'm helping my friend mbarni with his laptop (Clevo P151HM) and the BIOS update
was not enough to put the 680m to work.
The motherboard is not recognizing the nvidia VGA and only the Standard VGA Graphics
adapter can be seen in the sistem.
What can be done to make my 680m to work?

The BIOS just reads the GPU ID and then matches it with a list of names, if it is not in the list then it shows as Empty or Standard VGA.
It is not important that the BIOS knows the name. If the card works it works if the BIOS knows the name or not doesn't matter at all. ;)

It will not work if the NVIDIA drivers can't be installed.
When I try to install any NVIDIA drivers, an error message is shown stating that no NVIDIA card is present on the system to be installed.

BIOS update worked. But did not recognized the GTX680M.

Just try to mod the "inf" in the driver in order that the card is recognized or use an ".inf" from laptopvideo2go.com.

Try one of the modified inf's in my sig. I have modified the latest Nvidia 310.90 as well. Also, if you go to the first page of this thread your exact problem is discussed and the solution is provided too.
