Yesterday I was using my laptop and closed the lid which caused Win10 to hibernate. No problem, do it all the time. When I came back about 30 minutes later to use it again, the laptop turned on but the screen was completely black. Tried hitting Fn+F7 and all the other keys which affect display but nothing. Tried a hard reset but nothing came up on boot up, not even post.

I took off the bottom and noticed that the heatsink fins were completely caked with dust. I'm thinking the GPU overheated and fried. Sound correct?

Laptop is about 5 years old. Had a GTX 580M in it. Anyone know where I can get a cheap replacement? Don't necessarily need a 580M again since my gaming days are over.

im no expert at these sorts of things but give it a good clean out first and then try a EC reset.
remove battery and mains plug and press and hold on button for 20 seconds.

then plug in mains without the battery connected and see if it will boot up. if not do same again but then try with battery only.
worth a shot before thinking of forkin out money.

clevo's sure are built to last as my m860tu which is from 2008 is still going strong and used every day.

Definitely worth trying that, and also cleaning it out and making sure any kind of cables or components on the inside are seated properly. Do any of the lights or fans still turn on, even if the system isn't posting?

Yes, the lights come on as they should. Just the screen is black.

Also, the CPU fan spins correctly. The GPU fan will not spin unless I do FN+1 to turn all fans on at the highest speed.

Sounds like the problem I used to have with my P170HM too. Try what MrDJ and pat said cos that was what I had to do to get it to work; it can take hours sometimes to work normally.

Try to cool your system down further if possible (e.g. using air-con). Worse come to worse, open up the part to let the GPU and CPU cool down for a while, then close and see how.

These issues are somewhat due to an overheating GPU, if you have not repasted the GPU, now's a good time to do it too.
