I just got my P170SM laptop yesterday, and I immediately put it through a rigorous gaming session of The Witcher 2 on high presets. Besides the absolutely fantastic performance, the GPU temps did leap to a steady 80-85c with the occasional brainbusting 94c moment. I was thinking of repasting the coolers with a Noctoa paste, but only if I know what paste is already on it.

So does anyone know what thermal paste is used with this board?

Did you order a thermal paste upgrade with your notebook? if not it is probably a pretty crappy one.. So better replace it :) What gpu did you order ? If it's a high end one (8970M/ 780M) 80-85 are normal temps on full load so don't worry about that. Also, if you don't have a notebook stand, try lifting the back of the machine a few cm above the table, that usually helps a lot too

I bought it through a danish company that rebrands the models. But no I didn't get a thermal upgrade, nor do I have a laptop cooler (the sells men said it wouldn't make a difference). And yes I'm using a high end 780M :)

It varies from supplier to supplier. Your best bet is to get in touch with whomever you purchased from and inquire (often times it says on the configuration page before you checkout). Sometimes it's just listed as "OEM thermal compound", so it may even be necessary to ask what specifically the compound is. :)

From the factory I think it's some generic silver goop, but it will be a thick application.
