I have a problem with a used P170SM I bought. upon booting, the laptop will enter a boot loop which can take up to 2 minutes, at some point it will boot fine and work perfectly. I can set the pc to sleep and wake it up and it will work fine, if I restart, again bootloop until it loads fine. When used it works rock solid even under heavy load of gaming for hours etc...

What I tried is, with battery, without, switching ram slots, only one stick, pull out ssd, dvd drive... nothing helped.

Here is a video that shows the problem:

Any kind of help would much appreciated :)

Seems like a board or firmware related issue. Have you tried - or considered trying - reflashing the BIOS & EC?

Reflashed the bios and it worked like a charm :D THANKS!! I guess previous owner flashed wrong manufactor bios... Previously upon booting it showed stylenote on screen instead of the correct VISION.
BTW I did not flash the ec does it matter?

    Thanks again

You should always try to flash EC and BIOS so that they match.

But the current EC on the laptop is the latest available for the p170sm, should I still reflash it?

The EC should have been flashed first if you were updating it (but since it's current, no worries). As long as you're not noticing any issues with the fans or keyboard, you should be good!
