When I power up my Clevo P170SM it starts beeping and doesn't stop, it boots the OS and after a few seconds power off itself. The beeps are high-pitched, also the caps-locks and num-locks LEDs keep blinking together. The numbers of beeps is more than 30. The beeps error page for the bios doesn't list more than 11beeps. The BIOS and OS drivers are all up to date.

EDIT: Solved, it was an overheating problem.

    hi
not sure if this will help but try an EC reset.
remove mains and battery and then press and hold power button for 20 seconds.
then use mains without battery and boot as normal.
if that doesnt work repeat but use battery only and reboot.

ive never heard of continuous beeps for that long so im wondering if something could have worked loose like a ram stick. has the lappy been moved about a lot lately.

can you boot into safemode ok or does that beep as well. from bootup continually press F8

this is all guesswork so hopefully someone else migh be able to advise.
next thing will be to contact your suppliers support for maybe a rma back for checks.

I will try the EC reset, I take the laptop to school everyday, I will also test the RAM sticks(it has 4 and one failed a few months ago and had to be replaced) the beeps start in the bios and continues.

I'm also scared it may be an overheating problem and something may get fried if I keep trying...

The laptop is in garanty but I need it to do my final exams in a few days.

    Thanks for your early response.

    your welcome.
i didnt ask about temperatures as its a relatively new laptop.
you can find lots of free monitoring software in my sig below.
its also a good idea to clean the vents and fans out every few months and even more if you have pets around the house as hairs get everywhere.
    core temps/hwinfo64/gpu-z are worth downloading.

I have cpu-z but I don't have enought time to check before it powers itself off, I did manage to check that it detects all RAM sticks.
Temperature is usually low though, only spikes when rendering and even then no more than 70-75°C.
    Perhaps some sensor is malfunctioning.
I did the EC reset and it didnt beep but shutdown anyway after a bit...
EDIT: I just noticed that fn+1 shortcut doesnt work, actually i think some fan isnt working, perhaps is blocked or something, I'm going to open it and check.

those temps are ok but if the fan doesnt kick in with the shortcut that could well be something to do with it.

Solved, the processor fan wasn't working for some reason, but after opening it and clening it a bit it seems to work just fine now.

What I don't understand is why isnt this error (the repeating and never-ending beeps) in the AMI bios error list. Thank you for your help, I was so worried about the exams coming up and not having a working computer.
