Another Clevo I got in recent years and yet again the product is sub par in quality.

I wonder if anyone can help me. Because this just feels like complete bull.
I recently purchased p170em. And it just cut out after a month of very minimal use. Not even been out of house.
I sent it in, back to box.co.uk and they tell me that I damaged the power jack
and it would have to be replaced at my cost, (but here's the catch) they don't have a power jack nor does their reseller. And they are suggesting I should purchase a whole board. Which has the power Jack on it.
Of course this sounds like complete madness!
Any one know what I can do?
Where I could get a power jack?

Well, at the very least you need to know the jack manufacturer & part number. Clevo should have these details, ask your reseller to inquire at their Clevo contact.
Then go on some online parts warehouse like digikey and buy it. Most likely the postage will cost more than the actual part ;)

sorry to hear your having problems. cant help with the company as ive never heard of them but looking at their website it looks like a general online shop like ebuyer or such like.

i would argue the point that the lappy hasnt left your table since you got it or have you been playing football with it around your room :)

its a shame you didnt come here first for advise as we have a list of reputable resellers who build the lappys to your spec. box sounds like they are a 3rd party that buy ready built.

Hi there man, under UK law since the fault is within the first year of use they have to prove the damage was done by you and not there from the factory.

Don't let them push you out your warranty.

They say that they have photos of the power jack and it has been physically damaged.
I did notice the outer ring part of it spilt. But it worked like that without problem. I wonder if they are trying to get out paying for the board themselves. Because that is what is actually bust.

They "say"? Did they send you the photographs? You might want to request them if not via email attachments.

Without accidental coverage, he is out of warranty service (if it is his fault, that is). :(

Well they saying they cant get the part number from the reseller. No one knows it and they are offering me to install the main board for £199 plus vat.
    What shall do?
I fancy just driving down and murdering one of their technicians.

ask them who the reseller is and then deal direct with them.
i hate it when these companys offer certain brands that are ready boxed but know nothing about them when they are faulty. they sound as good as pc world techs.

I think it's pcspecilist Uk, that's what it said on the laptop box.
And it's the power jack that is broken, so they say. Might be true, the ring part was sort of split. Never understood why it split so easily.
And they are referring to the mother board.

i thought it might be them. good luck with the warranty as their website states for the standard 3 year warranty courier is only covered for actually 1 month and parts for 1 year.
so im guessing an external company that buys from them will have the same cover.

Well. Anyway I've ended up swallowing it. 235 quid.
Sadly I think this will be the last time I purchase clevo. Every time there's something else with the machines. Cheap enough but not worth the constant breaking blah.
    Thanks folks anyway.

I haven't had anything break on my Clevo before 2 and a half years when my keyboard started breaking (LITERALLY purely from overuse) and nothing serious that I couldn't have prevented has happened and it's almost 4 years I've had this machine now. I don't know where you're getting broken Clevos all the time, but as far as I know Clevo machines are the least likely to break on you. So what can I say? Find a really respectable reseller. I'm not knowledgeable about the UK resellers but they should be easy to find on this forum. Sorry you had bad experiences.

    totally agree with D2 Ultima
my m860tu is 5 years old now and still going strong. yes it had a dead 9800GT gpu after almost 3 years but so did many thousand of owners around the world. was replaced under warranty with a 260GTX and is still running perfectly.
only reason i updated to the P150 is i wanted to play the latest games on high/ultra.

You could consult a local repair shop. DC jack replacement here runs around $60± (about 40 quid, I think). Not every shop does soldering work though.

With me my card can't be OC'd anymore and it crashes now and then, but that's my fault once more. But I do livestreaming and video recording and stuff and I want to be able to play all games and lots of new games are coming out DX11 only base (I can't even LAUNCH Crysis 3) and I'd like to be able to play those too. For all above I need a stronger CPU (of which the i7-3740QM is by far, and so will its haswell counterpart be if I get haswell) and a new, current level GPU (hence my planned 680M/780M SLI setup should be more than sufficient for a good few years to come) and that's why I wanted to upgrade.

If this wasn't the case and I just played L4D2/TF2/LoL or something like that, I'd simply refresh my hard drives with new ones, buy a new keyboard and battery and repaste my CPU and GPU and throw in more RAM (which is a ton cheaper right now) and I'd be set for a rather small monetary hit for a good while again as far as things go.
