hello all,
just got my clevo p170hm earlier today, so I'm running through all my installs. I got it w/out an OS, cause I already have win7 64bit.
my HD setup has both an intel SSD 120GB, and a regular HD seagate 7200rpm. I installed the OS on the SSD, but now windows cant see the regular HD....it only sees the 120gb onto which it is installed.
the bios sees them both, and windows install saw them both, since it gave me a choice on which one to install.
any ideas as to what I'd need to do to have it show up in windows?...I've install all the system drivers that came w/ the computer and rebooted several times, but nothing...no 500gb HD.
the other question is:
in a hybrid setup I know one should install the OS and progs on the SSD and keep the data on the regular HD.....but what about games...that tend to write/read more often then regular programs.....should those still go on the SSD?
thanks in advance for any help...
-
The HDD may be unallocated yet.
RUN: diskmgmt.msc
If you do not know how to do this, simply ask. -
great, that worked.
thanks!
now as for the 2nd question....would games be better off installed on an SSD or the regular HD, when running them together?
I wonder in terms of SSD degradation w/ read/write.... -
At the moment there are conflicting information, Samsung has done a research to show ~6% increase in fps when using a SSD, but however other tests and benchmarks show no affect on fps.
One thing for sure though is that it will load your game much faster.
I would install it on the SSD if disk space is not a problems.
As far as degradation, SSD should generally be able to cope with it. There are some myths about write endurance. check this out http://www.storagesearch.com/ssdmyths-endurance.html
