Hi, I am planning to upgrade my p170hm.
    I currently have a 2630qm with 6970m on hm65 chipset, with a budget of 500gbp (780usd)
What kind of processor/graphics upgrade can I get??
    Thanks

If you have a P170HM it should have the Intel Core Chipset HM67.

You would be able to upgrade to the AMD 6990M video card and most likely the NVIDIA 580M.

You also are able to upgrade your CPU all the way up to the i7-2960XM , also the Memory, WiFi card, you could upgrade if desired.

Check with your dealer or reseller on the prices for these items. :)

Hi, thanks for the reply. I know it should be a hm67 but I got this from Japan and they sold it as a hm 65 laptop. Also they do not do upgrade so will have to do all of this my self. So if you could direct me to a seller than will be Great.

If you have a 6970m Radeon videocard, save your money, the 6990m and 580m cards really arent much of an upgrade if at all on certain games. Wait till the next gen card to come out.

I would agree and just say to hold off on upgrades for now, at least for the GPU. The new Ivy Bridge processors won't fit on that motherboard, but the new GPU's should (from current knowledge).

The current 6990 will only be 10-20% faster at best, which isn't going to be worth the $500 upgrade cost. A faster CPU might be worthwhile, which gives you the options of any Sandy Bridge (2670, 2720, 2760, 2820, 2920, 2960).

I'd personally go with an SSD and wait out the new GPU's.

Save your cash and wait until its confirmed that a P170HMx can take the new 28nm GPUs.
Most noticable upgrade you could do now would be to invest in a SSD.
Dont bother with Sandforce based SSDs though, they dont play nice with Clevo / Sager.

I think im gonna try and get a 2920XM + 28nm GPU if its possible, but for now im more than happy with my 2720QM + HD 6970.
