Hey i was wondering if any one here uses sony vegas on there p177sm and if the do could you tell me if your dGPU is getting used because when i try to render using cuda ( option is avalible and selected so it can see my card ok) if the card should have load on it because i dont get any use out of my 780m
i tested a render with and without cuda and there is no change in time both were 1.14 mins

    I don't use Vegas...

Does the dGPU light turn on? Did you set it to use the dGPU in the Nvidia software. The MSI Afterburner should be forcing the dGPU on, so it sgould be using it.

You could try to force the Intel gpu to see if it is slower. Close afterburner, set Vegas to use Intel in the Nvidia software, and make sure the gpu light is off.

You might also google Sony Vegas cuda 4600. The 4600 is for the intel chip, so you can see if other complain or say Intel renders just as fast as the Nvidia.

If the card is not initiated you may need to open the NVidia Control Panel and use the Manage 3D settings to force the 780M to run with Sony Vegas.

I have found this in the settings and now the card activates but only 10 or so percent not enough to change rendering times dramatically but it helps a heap when editing the video as the preview is smoother and works allot better now

Not all rendering is suitable for a gpu after all. But thanks for sharing that option so others can see.

Intel made a lot of graphics improvements, so as said, not all rendering is going to be a lot faster on a dGPU. It depends on the program. I would search for Vegas benchmarks and see how you compare.

Have you benchmarked your cpu and gpu to make sure they are performing like they should? Have you eliminated all background programs? Anti-virus can some times cause this, so stop everything running in the background.

If it is just that one type of video file, see if others are having issues. I.e. find out the compression used, the frame rate, the dimensions and google those. This may be normal. Most people don't have 120fps videos...

It's likely the optimus system not being quite compatible.

You need to also check is latest version of Sony Vegas already has support of Keppler architecture card to make good use of CUDA.
