I'm planning on purchasing a P170HM this coming Monday and in the process of doing my research I came across the P270WM and noticed that it had a backlit keyboard... I apologize if this has come up before here but I wonder what the chances are of transplanting the P270WM keyboard into the P170HM? I realize that the entire keyboard may not fit, bezel and all, but maybe it could be retro-fitted. I'd be curious to know if just parts like the keyboard can be purchased separately.

With the exception of no back-lit keyboard, the P170HM looks to be just the ticket for me and I can't wait to get my hands on it. :)

since we have seen the keyboard buttoms layout changed a lot, so
1.the ribbon cable on backlit kb and connector on p170hm have to fit well
2.the data signal need to be key-to-key capatible(im sure u dont want a keyboard which press "1" result "2", press "2" result "3"......for example)
    little chance........ :)

Even disregarding the layout there is no connector for the power ribbon a backlit keyboard needs on the P170HM so the answer is no.

Hmm... Well there may not be a connector for the power, but it might be possible to mod the board and add power. Oh well, just a thought I suppose. Thanks :)

The NEW backlit keyboards are higher, thicker, the keys would stand up too high in the keyboard slot if installed in any of the current models.

This...besides there in no connector. Sorry. :(

The p270wm and p570wm keyboards are even thicker than the em/sm models, they have an extra steel plate to reinforce them which makes them really heavy too.
