    Hello,

I have received my computer after a second RMA. I am wondering if my computer is fine or not.

In most games there is not much problem, but in heroes of the storm I get very high temperatures in the part of selecting characters, party view, etc.

Playing the game I get in my second GPU maybe up to 80°C, while in the character selection view I can get 90°C or maybe more. I am more careful now, so while not in a match I get to desktop often so the GPUs usage decreases and so they get cooler. So maybe it could get worse (will do further tests about this)

I have seen up to 102°C which was unstable, but that was before reapplying thermic paste and activating the fan of the lifter base I have.

Which is the maximum secure temperature for those graphical cards (and secure temperature for long term survival capacity?)

Is this common? Any other user can tell me about his/her experiences with this setup and game?

    Thanks you!!

90C+ is pretty high for the GPU, especially 102C, but its good to hear you do not see that high after reapplying the TIM. I would consider redoing it again to see if you can get even lower temps since you know that has helped before. What type did you use for the TIM.

I used Gc extreme just a pair of weeks ago :p

I will let that game to run freely to see the maximum temperature it reaches now.

Which is the maximum temperature for this graphic card?

Throttle usually starts at 92-95°C (vbios specific) and it will auto-shutdown at 100-105°C. That's probably with safety margin, so might do a little high than that. Yet even 90°C isn't very good for a chip; increased resistance and, thus, voltages/amps will see the tiny, individual semiconductors die sooner, ageing the gpu faster (evinced by slowly dropping performance over time and shorter lifespan).

Try turning on Vsync or Dynamic Vsync. When I play Path of Exile I have this same problem. The cause is that PoE doesn't have internal frame limiting so the game just pushes the GPU to extreme utilization unless I turn on Vsync. Temperature difference was quite big, ~70C with vsync and ~85C without. The character selection screen on PoE can push temp to 90C without vsync on mine.

On a hot day my 7970M hit 99C in Heroes of the Storm. I didn't notice any throttling. In other games the temperature is about 85-90C which I consider safe because it has always been like that. My P170EM is about three years old, and I don't worry about my 7970M, but I find it a bit strange that Heroes of the Storm makes it hot. Maybe it has something to do with the driver?

Could be drivers, hard to say unless AMD releases new ones to address the problem. We have seen Nvidia release new drivers specifically for better performance in certain games. So it would make sense its driver related.

I had problems with my 7970M, granted a single card machine. It actually burnt itself out, on inspection, a few resistors were fried due to the worst soldering I have ever seen on a computer part. I was shocked how terrible it was. I also had temp issues with the 7970M, that was a hot card, but then every AMD GPU I have used were room heaters.
