Hi guys!
I turned on my computer and was greeted to a black screen. It does glow when doing certain task, but there's no seeing anything, even with flash light. I had this problem before with a Clevo machine and it was the intverter. The computer does work using HDMI and windows shows everything is working and cooling properly.
Do I need an inverter or do I reset the system by taking out the cosmos battery (under keyboard) and of course removing all power draws for 30 seconds or more?
The BIOS is from 2012, are there reasons I should flash the BIOS to something newer?
Reading through some of the post here, I've noticed that some have upgraded the video card(s) in similar models if not the same model to GTX 970m or in SLI, is that possible?

Yep 980M is possible too (with some mods as I believe the cooling isn't really up to it in the slave GPU slot try and get a SM or SMA slave heatsink)
Check your cables first before buying stuff, if you've never done a full teardown there'll probably also be dust all through it. May just be dust shorting something.
No harm in doing a CMOS reset (a.k.a. clearing the EC). If you're going to update BIOS make it the premamod BIOS.Last edited: Jan 31, 2017kobe_24 likes this. -
If going to 980m sli then get slave gpu heatsink that has it's own cooling (without sharing it with cpu). You can just bend off 3rd cpu heatpipe so it will fit. Temps will be same on both gpus and cpu with good thermal paste will still be around 80c. Prema Bios and vBios will make it alive.

Guys, that is incredible!
The reason why I kept this notebook is because of how well it performed with the default stuff. I had just posted a video on YouTube the night before of my little brother playing DOOM on said computer in Ultra mode. Sometimes the FPS hit 100!
I did take take out the processor and video cards to reapply thermal paste, also removed the keyboard to clean it, as it was very dusty. I have not seen a tear down video, nor maintenance manual about removing the display or separating the top half from the bottom half. I'm sure it is not too much to it, but I don't feel like guessing at what I'm doing, I want to know what I'm doing.
Now that you guys have mentioned different heatsinks, point me in the right direction (best place to buy parts for this device)? I'll buy the heat sink regardless of upgrade! Prema BIOS, ok...which version? You guys have experience and I want to lean on that more so than not this go round. -

I took the whole computer apart and cleaned it, still a no go on the screen coming on. So display inverter it is! Who sells one for this particular model? I would like to see it, because it seems like everything was on the back of the display, nothing like anything I've changed out before.

Yes, that is right. A wled does not need an inverter since there's no high-voltage tubes to power (leds are low-voltage). Unfortunately, the controller pcb is now pretty much integrated with the lcd itself and am not aware of any being sold separately (apart from those for desktop monitors). If it were just the backlight then there'd be a possibility of repairing it, but since the flash light did not help to show an image then the issue must be more serious.
Before buying the new screen; if the current card is an Nvidia and you have an LVDS panel then you might first check whether the panel's firmware has been corrupted (see thread 1, thread 2 and diy fix). This particular system would be susceptible to the issue and there have been a few precedents for the P37x-xM series.kobe_24 likes this. -
OMG! My display stopped working after I downloaded EVGA Precison X! So I'm going to read that 3rd linked post very carefully, as it might have the solution to my problem! You guys so freaking rock! I'll let you know what happen, thanks!
