When I close my laptop lid and open it again, the screen doesn't recover most of the time. I get a black screen that is lit up. Usually if I close the lid and open it again, it comes back, but all the window sizes are messed up, which I think is evident of a GPU recovery failure or something. I can further attest to this in that once I opened the lid again after closing it, and the laptop was stuck in 1024 x 768 until I rebooted.

Sometimes the screen doesn't recover at all. This is usually caused by a black screen that is not lit up. I have to hard reboot the laptop in order to get the screen back.

Additional info: Running a NP8157 from Sager

I faced the same issue earlier this week. But my LCD wouldn't turn on how many times I did it. Had to force power off and turn it back on for the display to work.

I had the same issue with my Acer laptop with Optimus hardware with the same symptoms you mentioned.

Does this happen on both MSHYBRID and on DISCRETE mode? What version is your BIOS & EC?

I'm currently on DISCRETE mode with 382.33 drivers.

Someone told me I should go update the intel drivers, which I can't access on Discrete mode. Should I go try that and see what happens?

If you're using discrete mode via the BIOS, the computer doesn't even see the Intel card, so you wouldn't be able to install the drivers anyway.

Are you using the latest BIOS/EC for your machine?

Any idea where I can find the BIOS? I'm actually running a NP8157, which is the Sager release. http://prntscr.com/fch887 When I accessed Obsidian tools it told me this message, so I'm a bit worried.

    What's EC?

I'm currently using MSHYBRID mode. Haven't tried discrete mode yet. Will test this out next. However I only had this issue just once on the Clevo model but it is a regular occurrence with the Acer Laptop (this one, closing opening the lid bring everything back to normal, so not a big issue. Clevo didn't do that).

    Bump for BIOS info

Edit: Tried to search for NP8157 Bios; got no results. The Sager website has no downloads for Bios.

Tried to search for P650HS-G Bios update, only found stuff about prema bios in this forum really.

Not really sure how I'm supposed to check my Bios at this point.

Contact your reseller and see whether they are able to send the update to you or not. The files (for Clevo models) usually aren't uploaded to sellers' sites for public download.

Try this - if your monitor has an option for HDMI/DisplayPort deep sleep, try disabling it. If it's disabled, enable it. Note that this is not a software setting, you'll find it within the monitor's OSD.

Sorry, thought you were connecting to an external display.

If you contact support with your serial number they will send you the correct latest BIOS.
