Just to be clear, I don't believe this was an issue when I received the laptop, unless I've somehow not noticed this for a few months. I believe it's more likely I bumped into it at some point and didn't notice. This morning I noticed on certain darker backgrounds, you can see two brightish streaks across a small part of the screen. I can't see it on screenshots, so I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue. I can't really see it on lighter backgrounds so its more of an annoyance than anything else.

TL;DR: What is the problem with my screen? Is it something I did? Is it something that will go away on its own?

Looks like a defect of the LCD panel where you get these pressure marks which can happen during manufacture of the panel or laptop. You don't pile stuff onto your laptop do you?

I know I haven't dropped it or piled stuff. Could it happen from bumping into or blowing the screen? Is it something that will go away?

Not exactly. A panel isn't that fragile. ;) You should claim warranty for it so it can be replaced.

Assuming there are no cracks or physical marks to the panel then some bumping should have been fine, if the display was getting slammed back then it would be understandable but usually such physical damage is obvious.

Sometimes it can come when it's put into a bag tightly with other stuff like books. A lot of A-panels have ridges inside them for stability, if that gets pressed into the screen too hard it can leave a line where it pressed.

Can you physically feel where the lines are? If yes, and if they line up with any rows on the keyboard, it's a fair chance it's from excess pressure/accidental damage.
