So my brother's P650RE died and I'm pretty sure I've narrowed it down to the motherboard failing. Any way, he's in no position to buy a new laptop so I'm dusting off an old Sony from 2012 so he can get by but I need to figure out what to do with the dead machine.

Now I know getting it repaired would most likely cost as much as when I bought it, but I am wondering if any of the resellers sell just the motherboard, then I can just do the repair myself. This probably is still a bad idea with the cpu and gpu being BGA and crazy expensive, but I just want to hear what you guys think.

It's worth a shot, ask how much it will be and see if it's worth it. The only other solution I can think of is to sell it as a parts machine and recover a small amount for it. Some may want the screen, keyboard, or chassis, fans etc. Or maybe even try to repair the motherboard.

That is the problem with BGA. I have a Gigabyte P35X in for repair, I hope warranty covers the repair, but if not, I will not spend any money on it even though it is brand new. I would be forced to sell it for parts at that point.

I figure I'd probably end up parting it out. I forgot to add I'm out of the warranty period but good luck with yours.

That's a good point on people wanting to buy to repair it themselves. If you anyone tell them there's a customer here :)

Do you carry motherboards for the p650re? As a canadian you're probably the best person to contact before going to the resellers. If not, have any tips on the situation?

    edit: spelling

eurocom sells the board for $445 CAD but whether they have stock is another thing.

Wow a 6700hq and 970m for $445, very interesting. Do you happen to have a link for this, it'll be nice if I have something to show them when I contact them. Which I'm doing now.

When did you get it? Did you double check the warranty period?

double check if they have stock first.

even if it was out of the warranty period you'd still pay for the shipping to the repairer, the part in question, and the time to repair.

Thank you for the link, I was looking at eurocom's specific model thats why I could find it.

Also I checked my warranty with another machine I got at the same time, and yeah its done.

I sent them an email, but they probably won't get back to me until Monday.

So now i'm a bit confused and stumped on what to do. Communications with eurocom have been terrible so far. I've sent multiple emails and they've only responded twice but both answer none of my questions so it doesn't feel as if i'm even talking to anyone with their support team.

Anyway the last response contained nothing but RMA info, but I don't want to send it in then have them say they cant do it or have to pay extra for the repair or some reason. (All I want is a new motherboard!!)

Any advice on what to do now? I'm gonna try to send a couple more emails to them and maybe try to contact the sales team instead, (whom i've had a great experience from before)

Was it purchased with a credit card? I'm asking because a lot of credit cards out there has an "extended warranty" policy on electronics. Meaning an extra year of warranty on top of the typical 12 month manufacturer's warranty.
