P650RG installed 960 pro SSD and read/write speed is only about 800/700MB.

    Hello,everybody!

I checked the Clevo P650RG this model is using the HM170 chipset which can support PCIE 3.0 X 4.

I don't know why the interface will be recognized as PCIE 3.0 X 1 after installing the 960 pro SSD. I can not find the relevant documentation for reference and doubt BIOS compatibility issues? Still someone can teach me how to improve this problem?

maybe mobo is designed to only have x1? either that or bios restricted something not sure.

that sucks man, see if you can return laptop with another model as replacement.

Clean the contact pins and check the slot.

I have used ahci sm951 version and it can be full speed. Thus, I don't know if it is not compatible with the nvme version.

Then there might be a motherboard issue.

You mean that the motherboard slot problem or bios restricts something?

    eg.
bios limits the power of that pcie slot.

a simple benchmark like crystal disk mark wont draw even close to the full potential of the SSD that would use that much power assuming the slot is restricted.

if its QD32 performance dropping then yes as thats heavy on controller and on flash, but mostly sequential and QD1 results then no. your results are messed even at QD1 i doubt it. maybe restriction is just plain mobo design that they only use x1 for it.

as far as i could remember though, x1 pcie 3.0 should be under 800MB/s and your CDM brings over it. CDM isnt exactly accurate as i have test it with two SATA SSDs in raid 0 hitting over 1350MB/s when upper limit of two sata should be around 1250MB/s. try running that SSD sequential test with HD Tune see if you are under 800MB/s if it is could really be lane restriction by design.

if sm951 runs fine then technically other should run fine too, maybe your 960 pro module is damaged?

If you said above is correct, then the picture 3, 4 shows "1 x PCI EXPRESS x 4" and "Maximun link width: 4x". The system detects that this slot is 4x, but currently only runs 1x.

As for the 960 pro module is damaged, I currently have no other machine can be tested .

It should only be a couple of paces behind this if operating normally.

from the looks of it he is clearly caped at x1 speed shown in his screenshot. maybe bios restriction, mobo or 960 pro has issues not sure at this point.

There is no BIOS restriction I am aware of.
