I understand the difference between the two laptops in the title when it comes to BGA vs Modular and how that affects certain components. I have been to various sites building them as similar as I can. 1070 GPU, 16GB ram, 256 SSD. The p670 comes with the 6700hq and the P775s I was looking at have either an i5 6600k or the i7 6700k

How does it affect gaming performance? Will the 670 not play the games just as well as the 775? With similar GPUs and such.

Which one would be quieter? I know the 775 is heavier and thicker.

I understand the 775 can be upgraded, but in two years I would probably purchase another since upgrading the two main components would probably be around $1000+ anyway, so I am leaning towards the 670 since it comes out to around $300 or more cheaper depending on site and warranty.

Both will play games well but personally I'd go with the 775 because I love powerhouse/DTR laptops.

Upgrading components would be cheaper than buying a brand new laptop unless you sell that laptop, but it's hard to know how much it would be worth and how much a new laptop would cost etc so upgrading may still be cheaper (if NVIDIA/Clevo/Intel/etc allows upgrading).

    Thanks for the reply!

I always feel like I purchase with the idea of upgrading but then I never do. Two - three years after a build there are so many upgrades to so many different components, i just feel starting from scratch again gets me into what i want.

Technically you could buy either laptop and sell it in 2-3 years and buy a new one again. I really just like DTRs, so you should decide what you think you would prefer.

I don't think you'd notice much real world performance difference between the two. If you really were nervous about the cpu get the 6820hk.

I wouldn't buy a desktop replacement notebook with a Core i5. While most games aren't CPU limited, having the extra power isn't going to hurt. Normally I'd say the 6700HQ or non-K 6700 desktop processor is good enough, but the cost to move into a 6820HK or 6700K is only about $125, making it a worthwhile investment. Install the Prema BIOS when it becomes available, and you'll be able to fully tweak the overclock settings to get even more mileage out of your system.

Thanks Galm and Saturn for the comments. I will look into the 6820hk vs the 6700hq
