Copy pasted from a reddit post I did. So the 'Edits' are me trying stuff and editing the post:
Ok so basically I had an issue a few days ago. PC Overheated, shut down. Opened it up, checked the fans, they had a thin layer of dust blocking the vents, cleaned them off. Didn't have issues for a couple days. What just started happening is when the fans kick into high gear because Im playing a game the PC starts beeping again warning me of high heat and shutting off.
i've ran 2-3 different monitor programs, the CPU and GPU are around 40-50 degrees when the beeping occurs. All three fans are turning on and kicking into high gear. Everything seems to be working fine. But I still get the beeps. Its almost as if the laptop isn't recognizing that the fans, or one of the fans is turning on even though it is.
Any suggestions?
Edit: Ahhhh should I be getting a GPU temp value here? Is this the issue? http://imgur.com/a/Xgt4R
Edit 2: So I swore I saw the GPU temp when I was doing readings, but maybe it was showing me the intel one? Delving further.
Edit 3: I reinstalled chipset drivers. Im now seeing temp values for my GPU. I also opened it up and checked any loose cables, BUT it still didn't show up till after a chipset reinstall. So ill test it now
Edit 4: NOPE. As soon as the GPU reached about 60 degrees the fan kicked on higher speed. My CPU was around 55 degrees, it was slowly cooling it, the value was going down. I was seeing these number and value changes. But my computer was beeping at me so I had to shut down the game so it got quickly out of 'high speed fan range' so it stopped beeping and didn't auto shut down.
Edit 5 : So I found this post http://superuser.com/questions/6557...-overheat-shutdown-due-to-broken-sensors-in-w
Regarding power management in windows. I figured I'd look at it. When I saw it, I realized a few days ago I changed my power options because I didnt want it to turn off on me when I went away doing a long download on **** internet.
So I changed my CPU cooling from Active to Passive,I thought it solved the problem. It worked for a LOT longer, but as SOON as the PC fans kicked into high gear to start cooling i, it started to beep at me again and had to shut it down.
Edit 6: So I turned my fans on Maximum before turning on a game. Within about 15 seconds I start getting the beeping, and the fans had kicked down to low. None of them stopped, and all were giving me a 1600 RPMs on fan which are idle. I open HWInfo, CPU temp is 43, GPU is like 45. So something with a fan controllerrrrr?
Checking in event viewer, when it happened I got this:
: The embedded controller (EC) did not respond within the specified timeout period. This may indicate that there is an error in the EC hardware or firmware or that the BIOS is accessing the EC incorrectly. You should check with your computer manufacturer for an upgraded BIOS. In some situations, this error may cause the computer to function incorrectly.
Edit 7: It seems most of the time when the fans 'should kick into a higher gear' they do, then the PC instantly starts beeping as though it thinks its over heating. Monitors show the CPU and GPU are still within the temp of a completely acceptable range 50-60c. If I shut down the game so the GPU and CPU stop working harder it will generally trick it into not auto shutting down. Problem is also random though. I can be at a CPU temp of 40, and a GPU of like 30 because its not being used. Turn a game on, I watch the mnitors spinning all 3 fans, in a normal idle range, CPU climbs to like 45, GPU just starts kicking on around 30-35 temp and it'll instantly start beeping.
Still feels like an EC issue or bios problem not reading something properly but I can't find any bios or EC drivers for this.

The GPU will only show temperature values when under load as optimus turns the GPU off. It could be an issue with the sense wire for the fans.
What happens if you set max fan with FN + 1 (not F1). -
Generally I still see 'readings' from my GPU even though it won't read the temp because it's off, and it'll display it at 0 degrees till it hits like 32 or something. But that's not really here or there.
I generally use the control center they have when Im messing with it. But on automatic, when the fan kicks into a higher gear, about a second later the system starts beeping telling me it's over heating and it'll auto shut down soon.
If I start the fans at max they'll run at max, and it's a crap shoot when the beeping will happen. It could be right away, it could sometimes work for 15 minutes, it could sometimes work for an hour or two. Generally its about 15 minutes of usage though before this will happen. At this time hardware monitor will inform me all 3 fans are running, the cpu and gpu are in the 60 range and theoretically fine.
I went into bios to get some numbers. Fans kicked into high gear instantly, and it started beeping that it was over heating and eventually shut off automatically. My fans are unblocked, the temp is fine on the unit
