    Hi guys.

I recently went for the above trough scan uk and received nice machine with the following specs

    • 17.3" Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS screen
    • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, 1070, 980M
    • Intel Core i7 7700HQ
    • 250GB 960 Evo, PCIe Gen4 x4, NVMe
    • Qualcomm Killer 1535 M.2, 867Mbps, 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac
    • 16GB Corsair DDR4 2133MHz
    • Microsoft Windows Pro 10 64bit & 2 Year Premium Warranty
My problem with the unit is heat. Witcher 3 gets my cores up to 100 degrees within couple of minutes. Booting in to windows gets them up over 90. I have tried fn+1 for the fan speed but event this does not resolve the issue. I have tested with hw monitor, core temp, speed fan.

As I have read trough the forums I know there is a well known issue with clevo cc fan control but surely on max it should cool it down a bit better??

So the laptop is going back tomorrow after just two weeks and scan will attempt to repair and rectify the issue.
My question here is can I hope for sound resolution or is this model not so well made and the heat will always be an issue?

The reason I am asking is because I can dispute that the laptop is not fit for purpose (gaming is not an option currently) and at 1800 pounds rather expensive to just leave it like that.

Second question in case I have to what would you guys recommend to get instead with similar specs and around the same price range let say up to 2k pounds. It has to be as light as possible as well but I would trade the wight for extra battery life..
Ideally K processor too but this is not a must.

    Any suggestions?

Thanks for reading and your help.

    Kamil

Booting in Windows?? That's so high I'd wonder if thermal paste is even there. Contact customer service.

Your tempuratures in Windows should be in like the 30s-40s and gaming like 80s max.

I'm on my second P670HS from Scan, and this one is waiting to go back as faulty again. Both have had severe throttling which causes the CPU to limit its speed to 1GHz under full load.

I tried a P775DM3 at first but that was horribly chunky and hit 100 degrees under load.

I've given up on Clevo based laptops and I'm waiting for Alienware to start selling Kaby Lake.

Thanks, that is not good to hear. I shall wait and give them chance to rectify. I am expecting it will go back to them in the end.

As far as thermals go, this unit is pretty good. 90 Celsius just booting to the desktop means something is either faulty, or the thermal compound can't do its job (assuming it's there). They should be able to figure it out.

Don´t think badly about CLEVO based units because of your experience. I can assure you that is not the norm.
One thing you could try is requesting your vendor to always supply temperature tests before shipping, we do this by default, and in the long run i think this can save a lot of time and money for both the client and shop.

After having 3 Clevos with problems, that's enough to put me off them for good.

The P670RS-G throttled down so much the CPU can't get hot, so temps aren't even a problem on it.

Can you tell me what you think about my gaming laptop I just bought it from Xotic and i keep having a gut feeling I should scrap the whole order and go with someone else. In part because it is taking forever. Xotic G67 Raider (Clevo P670HP6-G) I upgraded some items, 32GB (2x16GB) CORSAIR Vengeance DDR4 3000MHz Dual Channel Memory 500GB Samsung 850 EVO M.2 SSD Intel® Dual Band 8260-AC (2x2) 802.11ac + Bluetooth 4.2 I took out the Raid 0 of 128gb and there HDD because I have another SSD id like to place in there and maybe add a NVMe at another date but not right now. I keep thinking I want 7th Generation Intel® Kabylake™ i7-7820HK (2.9GHz - 3.9GHz, 8MB Intel® Smart Cache) I can cancel and change it around once more but I really am just unsure.

@ImHere - The build looks good. Apart from the ETA, why are you reconsidering it?

It has to do with the fact that I cant buy a new laptop for years and years and part of me wants to squeeze a bit more horse power out of the CPU but its not a must jut a serious want lol, I like the idea of overclocking a cpu allot but I am also extremely worried about heating issues being in any laptop form factor.

I use this for RTS and turn based games like Civ 6 but my wife uses this for Adobe though no video editing.

I also like the idea of having parts i can upgrade, beyond overclocking its very comforting to know i can add more life by simply dropping in a new part...I know with my current build I can drop a NVMe in and even add more ram but aside from that its were its going to be.

I was also considering P670HP6-G because it uses a desktop process or though im kinda guessing here but my hope would be I could drop a new cpu in at a later date...that said I will have to sacrifice almost all the upgrades i had in the previous build.

to get an idea of what kinda crappy system i currently use lol its this

I upgraded the hard drive to a MX200 250gb SSD
    Ram increased to 16gb

I don't think paying the extra for 7820HK is worth it, the cooling system is already maxed with 7700HQ, leaving little to no room for overclocking.

On my P670HS-G, I can easily get 98C+ CPU temp and then the CPU will throttle during stresstesting. This is with fans running at max (not auto), but without undervolting. I had expected slightly better cooling, as it has 3 fans, the MSI GT72VR only has two fans, and runs cooler and more quiet, but I guess the added case thickness means a lot.

Beside the cooling system the machine is great, great keyboard, great screen, and not too bulky/heavy.

Thanks I needed to know that, I was thinking of placing thermal padding in several spots in the laptop to aid in dropping temps though in no way did i think this was going to help me overclock just a preventative measure.

Stresstest temps. CPU will start out at full turbo boost (3.6GHz), and slowly drop off and stabilize around 2.9GHz. The good thing is that it never drops below base speed of 2.8GHz.

Thanks you helped me keep to my order, I was worried do you think adding thermal take on the heat pipes will help with temps at all? Does yours have prema bios?

As in built in? We don't offer that as it's a gaming machine and a 1080 is really the minimum you want for that.
