Would somebody with the Clevo P750DM or Sager NP9758 please check their Thunderbolt 3 firmware for me?

On my, less than 2 weeks old NP9758, the Thunderbolt 3 port does not work and I'm having a heck of a time getting updated firmware.

It isn't likely that anyone has a Thunderbolt 3 device, but I have an AKiTiO Thunder3 Pro RAID Enclosure and I did have a Dell TB15 Dock (which I sent back because it simply doesn't work), and next month there will be a number of Docks and Hubs released, and I really would like to be able to use some of them.

The Thunderbolt 3 Firmware on my Laptop is extremely old. The NVM version is 10 (it should be 15 or 16) and the PD (TI Firmware) version is 0.09 (it should be 1.7).

In order to check your Firmware version, you just need to run the Thunderbolt Software. Once run, you then right click on the Taskbar Icon and select Settings. You then click the Details button on the Window that opens up.

Unfortunately, because Sager provides an Outdated version of the Thunderbolt software driver, your Details window might be empty. If it is, you would need to install a newer version of the driver (which you would have to do anyway if you ever want to use the Thunderbolt 3 port). Gigabyte has the latest driver (version 15.3.40.275) which can be downloaded from here:

    http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5478&kw=GA-Z170X-Gaming G11.0#driver

    Direct Link to Driver: http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Driver/mb_driver_thunderbolt_x64.zip

I've attached a screen shot of what the details page should look like. Notice how outdated my NVM and PD Firmware versions are.

I'm trying to determine if all of us with a P750DM or NP9758 have the same problem (a non-working Thunderbolt 3 port) or if it is just me.

AKiTio has a 17.3" Clevo P870 and it has updated Thunderbolt 3 firmware and their RAID enclosure works fine with it.

    Thanks much,

    Kenny

Turns out my shipped version doesn't even include the version number page. Software version here is 15.2.34.12 though.

From a read through the service manuals, it looks like the TB3 chipset is identical in the P870DM and P700 series, so hopefully it's just a matter of getting a hold of a firmware update.

Yea, you have to grab the driver from Gigabyte or you have to actually plug in a Thunderbolt Device for the Thunderbolt Software to show anything useful. Sager and Clevo are shipping seriously outdated drivers.

I've been trying to get updated firmware for 2 weeks now. The Sager Tech has been really great, but trying to get Updated Firmware from them has been difficult. I even asked for the P870DM firmware since it is known to work.

Just want to check the firmware version bundled with 1.05.10 bios, turns out I can not see the controller version details without an actual TB3 device, even with 15.3.40 drivers.

To check the Firmware if your computer is using an older Firmware version, you have to use the 15.3.40.275 driver from Gigabyte. Run the Thunderbolt program, then right click the Task Bar Icon, then select Settings. It should show you the Firmware Version.

Sager also has a small program they can send you that will give the NVM version, without relying on the Thunderbolt Software.

    The versions should be:

    Firmware: 29.96
    NVM: 16

If the NVM is 10, or anything less than 15 or 16, then NO Thunderbold device will work.

You'll need to get an updated BIOS and Thunderbolt Firmware from Sager/Clevo. They sent me BIOS revision 1.5.10R . Notice the R, don't know what it means. They also sent an updated Intel Management Engine driver. So, all in all, you'll need BIOS, Driver, Firmware, and IME.

In order to install the Firmware, you have to uninstall the 15.3.40.275 Gigabyte driver and re-install 15.2.34.5 from Sager/Clevo. If you don't, the Firmware won't install because apparently the firmware was written to talk to that specific driver version.

    HTH,

    Kenny
