I’ve been looking at moving to LGA laptops and have had my eye on the Area-51M, but the pricing here and the propensity for them to just blow up and with new models having the same issue, I’m looking these Clevo instead. I can get them MUCH cheaper than the A51M. I’m extremely unfamiliar with Clevo laptops though, so I have a few questions, hopefully someone can answer.

    1. Is there any difference other than size? Are CPU VRMs the same for each model?

    2. I’m eyeing whether or not to go for the 9900K or stick with the 9700K. If the VRMs don’t go above 125W for example I don’t see the point in the 9900K, but if they do, is there any hope at all of keeping it cool without delidding or liquid metal? (Ie will a large undervolt suffice?)

    3. I’m keen on the 2080, although if I grab the 2070 do you still get the 2080 heat sink?

    4. Any reliability problems with either of these machines?

I do like the fact that the P750 is slightly smaller, but I do worry about thermals.

    Thanks all

    1. Same mobo/VRMs. The P775 heatsink has larger fin area so should cool a bit better.
    2. You may need to reduce the all-core turbo slightly in additional to undervolting to keep thermals reasonable, depending on the workload. Power limit will depend on firmware. Stock Clevo firmware was limited to about 130W on my 8th gen unit, however it might be higher on stock firmware for 9th gen units. Ofc if you have Prema Mod it'll be much higher.
    3. Same heatsink
    4. I've heard a few cases of CPUs dying and needing to be replaced, but nothing widespread.

Thanks for that. Do you think the extra fin area is worth the bigger unit? Size isn’t a huge deal but I don’t want a bigger unit if there’s only a marginal gain.

Unfortunately I don’t have access to prema mod. I will do some more research in the CPU power limit, but at 130W I am thinking maybe the 9700K is a better bet.

    Cheers

Can’t tell you anything about that unfortunately.

Apparently some stock firmware versions have higher power limits, like here for example almost 150W: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...m-owners-lounge.809621/page-197#post-10854532

The extra size nets you a bigger screen, better speakers and the bigger heatsink. Ots worth it if you don't mind the size but the 15.6" is still going to destroy the BGA competition.

Ah right, the P775 has a subwoofer where the P750 does not.

Yes, nothing drastic but some nice touches :)
