Hi i was looking for a laptop with a 2080 and either 9700k/8750H/9750H, but i wanted something that can
    1) run ubuntu
    2) run cool

my question is, is it possible to use this stock and still be cool? im just getting into linux so i have no idea to undervolt in linux. (i'd be paying for Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut and Fujipoly Extreme Thermal Pads).

or if you can recommend another cleavo with a 2080 that runs cooler under $3000 usd. 15.6 or 16.1 preferably but fine with 17 inch if its cheap enough

The bios offers some functionality on this model, though a non k at 65w is the middle ground between the mobile 45w part and 90w k series.

    Hi i have this laptop (Eurocom X4C) (i9-9900K + nvidia 2080).

Im using Arch and all functionalities work.

Regarding the cooling, there is a small issue that the fans are a bit always at full speed when running at 5ghz and it is extremly noisy.

What i did is writing a script to lower the cpu freq https://bpaste.net/VFBQ

then i adapted the wmi driver https://bitbucket.org/tuxedocomputers/clevo-xsm-wmi/
after reversing a bit their control center to enabled fan normal / max mode . I can then if i have a high power task enable 5ghz and monitor the cpu temp to force FAN to permanently max speed.

Please note that on windows it is not even possible to do so and the laptop is extremely noisy if you do any power consuming task especially gaming.

COntrol center has an option to specify threasholds ... but it never really worked efficiency for me and i did not re implemented them in my forked driver.

    Hope it helps

    Best Regards

It's an easily swappable part, shops would likely accommodate requests.
