Whilst my laptop is on idle / browsing the web it is completely silent. However every 1-2 mins i can hear the fans slightly speed up to maybe 10% then off again in the space of 3 secs. Is this just temperature balancing? I was just wondering because it's running between 40-44 degrees whilst im partaking in these tasks.

Basically, yes. The fan profile is set to rev the fans when the system reaches a particular temp. Once the temp lowers to a specific value, the fans slow again.

Press FN + #1 on your keyboard to set the fan profile back to AUTOMATIC, if you do it again it will go on full blast

Laptops really don't have much passive cooling in them so the fans do need to burst up every so often.
