I am trying to run this laptop with an external GPU that runs over the thunderbolt 3 port, but when connected the device is not recognised as thunderbolt 3 and the gpu does not power up.

The thunderbolt has been enabled in the BIOS, and the enclosure and card work straight away when tested on another laptop with thunderbolt 3.

When the core X is connected a message pops up saying 'Thunderbolt device functionality might be limited'

In device manager, Core X Chroma appeas under USB devices, no thunderbolt controller is listed anywhere in the device managed.

If I load up the thunderbolt software, it says no devices connected. If I go to 'About' on the thunderbolt software it shows:

    Thunderbolt software
    Software Package version: 17.4.77.400
    Application version: 17.4.77.10
    Service Version 17.4.77.6
    Controller Driver Version: Unknown
    Networking Driver Version: Unknown

I believe underneath this it usually shows information relating to the thunderbolt controller, but there is just an empty box.

I think my bios version is 2.17.1254

I saw a thread on here regarding updating the thunderbolt firmware - I don't know if this could be the issue.

I have requested the updated firmware from Workstation Specialists (original supplier of this pc) and am yet to hear back. When I requested the updated thunderbolt drivers from them - the ones they sent were an older version that what is currently installed on the system...

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated - I've spent many hours messing around with this and got nowhere!

TB3 firmware is supplied by the driver, on my MSI GT75 I had to go into BIOS and check and option called Allow Thunderbolt firmware update, then I just installed latest firmware from Intel website and my firmware was updated after a reboot.

Hello, same problem here. When I'm looking into device manager there is not "Thunderbolt(TM) xxxx" device :( I've tried different bios version stock one and Prema one). Thunderbolt is enabled and security set to legacy mode, but controler is not visible in device manager.

    My Laptop is Clevo P771DM-G.
    Prema bios: 1.05.9
    Stock one: 1.05.13TDES

UPDATE: I was able to force Thunderbolt to start working, not sure if this is possible to achive on stock firmware, but I need to enable GPIO3 Force Pwr option to Enabled. After this Thunderbolt Controller is visible in device manager. But still unable to have eGPU working :(
