    Hey guys,

Basically I am blessed to have both but one needs to go, both are identical in spec 6700K 32GB Ram, the only difference is the graphics cards

    the p870dm has 2 x 980m
    the p775dm has a single desktop 980

    What would you keep?

Both have their plus points, I am a real stickler for heat, the P775DM the CPU gets up to 90 Degrees flat out, the P870DM the slave 980M can get up to 85 (totally crap is the heatsink arrangement for the slave card) both repasted with Gelid GC extreme

The 980m sli benchmarks higher and is obviously faster with SLI supported games, but the 980 isn't exactly slow

    Opinions appreciated

If you Focus on gaming, then SLI is a bihac as most games haven't native SLI-Support and you have to get workarounds via Nvidia profile inspector.

Actually it's more engine-dependent. Unless you are a day-1 buyer if the game engine supports SLI there will be a profile eventually. The problem is those games that don't have SLI support at all. If your favorite games support SLI, 2x980m setup is fine, then you'll even have higher performance, so it depends on what you are playing. I'd say a single gpu setup gives less headache. But also to consider P775DM has the 180W version which OCs worse than 200W AFAIK, 980m's should be better in that regard.

I won't be over clocking whatsoever so I am not too fussed about that potential, the only sticking point for the 980m is the terrible cooling on one card, just repasted again to see if I can bring that temp down.

Don't suppose anyone knows if the 180w 980 would fit in the p870dm using the existing heatsink from the 980m?

Is the hot card the slave one? My guess is yes, then make sure:
1)There is nothing covering the bottom of the chassis. In single GPU P870DM model there are elements that adjust the airflow to better cool a single card. However might not be a good idea if you are going to change GPU for the 980(N) version. I'm talking about elements marked in orange. Removing those shaved ~12 degrees off my slave card, i have about 2 degrees difference between the two (all credits to Prema).

2)About the 980 card with 980m heatsink - don't know for sure but doubt it. Single card setup uses a different heatsink compared to SLI config.

I would stick to the single 980 GTX (desktop class). SLI support for games is only getting worse so you will get better performance from a single desktop class 980 GTX
